Magic: The Gathering: Universes Beyond x Fallout

(Redirected from MTG)

Magic: The Gathering: Universes Beyond x Fallout is a release of Fallout Commander Decks for the Universes Beyond sub-brand of Magic: The Gathering, developed by Wizards of the Coast. It was announced on August 5, 2023, and released on March 8, 2024.

Overview[edit]

The set is part of the Universes Beyond series of Magic: The Gathering sets, which adapt other intellectual properties into Magic cards. The Fallout set primarily consists of four decks of the popular Commander format, which uses oversized decks led by a specific creature (the deck's "commander"). The decks come with two commanders: a main and alternate commander, both of which come in traditional foil as well as a foil-etched version of the main commander.

The decks are:

  • Scrappy Survivors - A red-green-white deck themed around heroic characters and factions. Dogmeat is the deck's commander, portrayed as the Fallout 4 iteration, with Preston Garvey serving as the alternate commander.
  • Hail, Caesar - A red-white-black deck themed around raiders and military factions. Caesar is the deck's commander, with Mr. House serving as the alternate commander.
  • Mutant Menace - A black-green-blue deck themed around mutants. The Wise Mothman is the deck's commander, with the Master serving as the alternate commander.
  • Science! - A blue-red-white deck themed around science and technology. Madison Li is the deck's commander, with Liberty Prime serving as the alternate commander.

Each deck has roughly 30-40 entirely new cards themed around Fallout elements, as well as reprinted Magic cards with names re-imagined as part of Fallout (e.g., Open the Vaults, Puresteel Paladin).

Cards from the set are also available in randomized booster packs, with some cards exclusive to these packs, such as existing Magic cards with new Vault Boy art, cards with Pip-Boy interface treatments and limited, serialized Bobblehead cards. It also includes basic land cards in two perspectives: isometric and third-person.[Ext 1][Ext 2]

The War Room was revealed as the promo card for the set's launch party.[Ext 3]

Secret Lair Drops[edit]

The set had three associated Secret Lair drops, small bundles of individual cards that were available for purchase online within a short time frame starting on April 8th, 2024. All of these cards were reprinted Magic cards with new Fallout art, and were available in Foil and Non-Foil versions.

  • Vault Boy - Four cards with Vault Boy art, e.g., Winter Orb, which depicts him in a Cryogenic Pod
  • Points of Interest - Five land cards with Vault Boy art, e.g., Reliquary Tower, which depicts Tenpenny Tower
  • S.P.E.C.I.A.L. - Seven cards with names beginning with each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. letter (Steelshaper's Gift, Propaganda, Elixir of Immortality, etc.), each depicting a different character in Vault Boy style. The art is styled after Fallout Shelter Characters.

Each Secret Lair came with a bonus Vault Boy card, with Wastes appearing in the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and Points of Interests Secret Lairs, and a Codex Shredder in the Vault Boy Secret Lair. However, a small percentage instead came with Mana Vault, an especially powerful and valuable card.[Ext 4]

A further four Secret Lair sets were announced on January 15, 2026, under the name the Rad Superdrop with a release date of January 26, 2026. The Rad Superdrop was made up of the following sets:[Ext 5]

  • Beyond Vault 33: Six cards depicting content from the Fallout Television Series.
  • Greet the Dog: Five cards depicting Dogmeat.
  • Rad: Five cards depicting mutants, abominations or cryptids.
  • Welcome to New Vegas: Five cards depicting content from Fallout: New Vegas.

A Silver Shroud Costume promo card was given with purchases over $149.
