Jet is a highly addictive form of metamphetamine that appears in Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout: The Board Game.[1]
Background[edit]
Jet was used in the vault experiment of Vault 95 to determine if former drug addicts would stay clean or relapse.[2] The drug is a type of metaphetamine that stimulates the central nervous system, causing a euphoric rush that lasts a few minutes.[3][4] Jet can be tainted, causing sickness days afterward.[5]
The drug is derived from the fumes of brahmin excrement, caused by a contaminated pre-War protein extract in their digestive system.[6] The contaminated proteins were the result of pre-War meat companies' experiments with cheap extracts used for growing food.[7] It acted like an amphetamine when ingested, and the pre-war protein contamination proliferates in excrement, resulting in fumes that cause the desired product.[7]
The Jet Antidote and endorphin blockers are used as a cure for the addiction, the latter utilized before the war to combat drug addiction.[8] Jet can also be used via hypodermic needles.[9] Using Jet creates an altered state of consciousness where one's perception of time slows down, allowing more actions to be performed for a short duration.[10]
Post-War[edit]
In the late 2230s, a more addictive version of Jet nicknamed Jet Stream[11] was researched by Myron and manufactured in New Reno by the Mordinos, shipped in bulk, and then processed into user-ampoules.[12][13] Myron explained that before Jet, the Mordinos were using peyote to attract tourists as pre-War barbiturates could no longer be produced due to the change in the climate.[14] Big Jesus Mordino wanted to control Redding, and planned to use the addictive drug to do so.[15][16] Testing was conducted on slaves, and initial variants caused heart attacks, cerebral hemorrhages, and psychotic episodes.[17] The Chosen One with high enough Intelligence may question Myron's claim to be the inventor of Jet.[18]
The manufacture of Jet spread across the wasteland, including to places like Red Rock Canyon.[19] The Great Khans manufacture the drug as a form of income and sold to nearby customers such as the Fiends.[20][21] Gangs such as the Omertas offer Jet to girls that work at Gomorrah, causing addiction, referred to as "slavery through a needle" by Sweetie.[22] The same situation occurred in Appalachia, where gangs like the Blood Eagles used drugs such as Jet to addict recruits, forcing them to continue service to their gang.[23]
Ultrajet is a form of Jet created by Murphy, for use by ghouls who are barely affected by normal Jet. By combining the drug with Sugar Bombs and two other ingredients, the result had double the potency of Jet.[24][25]

Notes[edit]
- An Atomic Shop Collectron, Ace the Raider, also makes reference to the chem.[26]
- Buffjet, Psycho Jet, Rocket, Turbo, and Rushing Water can be created using Jet as an ingredient.
Behind the Scenes[edit]
- Jet as an inhaled drug was Chris Avellone's idea, inspired by his brother's asthma inhaler.[Dev 1]
- Jet is mentioned in the Fallout Bible.[Dev 2][Dev 3]
- When asked why Jet cannot be found in pre-War pharmacies, Joshua Sawyer stated that it was invented after the war.[Dev 4]
