The desert was the site of the Gobi Campaign during the Resource Wars.[1] Lennox knew a fighter pilot who was caught in a sandstorm in the desert while flying in formation with three other jets. While the pilot ejected and lived, the three other jets and their pilots were gone.[2]

The Gobi is mentioned in Fallout: New Vegas and in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: The Pitt update.
