Gallipolis is a town in Ohio near Point Pleasant West Virginia, across the Ohio River.
Background[edit]
The town is mentioned on a plaque in front of the Silver Bridge, detailing the bridge's collapse and the aftermath. The bridge had served as a connection between Gallipolis and Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
On December 15, 1967, a malfunctioning traffic light on the Ohio side caused a pile-up on the bridge, stressing the structure. At 4:58 pm, a rusted eyebar link snapped and the bridge fell into the Ohio River below. This resulted in 46 people within 31 vehicles plunging to their deaths.[1] Following the catastrophe, a new bridge was built in its place. Sometime after the Great War, the bridge collapsed again, thus making the road between Gallipolis and Point Pleasant inaccessible once more.
Appearances[edit]
Gallipolis is mentioned in Fallout 76.
Behind the Scenes[edit]
Gallipolis is based on the real world location of Gallipolis, Ohio, across the river from Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The collapse of the bridge and details described are likewise based on the actual collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967.

In 1928, Silver Bridge was constructed. It was the first eye-bar suspension bridge in the US. It served the communities of Point Pleasant, WV and Gallipolis, OH until December 15, 1967 where it collapsed tragically during rush hour traffic. 31 vehicles fell into the Ohio River and all told 46 people lost their lives. To prevent further tragedies of this nature, Congress adopted the National Bridge Inspection Standards in 1968."
