The strait is mentioned as separating Alaska and Russia.[1] As relations broke down between the United States and China, the US established a military presence in Alaska to prevent an invasion across the Bering Strait.[Pub 1] The morning of the Great War, the United States Air Force reported a squadron of airplanes at high altitude over the strait.[2]
