goings on over here in beat construction land.....

Played two seriously hip jazz gigs this past week, went to the library on Saturday and checked out a ton of jazz cds-
carmen mcrae
charlie parker
mcoy tyner
verve remix 2
keith jarret
stan getz

Have decided to get back to doing some more real listening of that music because for all my studying, i don't listen enough.
other stuff-dj hangman and i have just done interviews, those will be posted soon.

music i've been listening to to get inspired....

I've been on an ani difranco with her band kick, listening to the funky tunes of theirs "ain't that the way" and "swing". i've also been on an acoustic "everything but the girl" kick as well, though their electronica stuff is wonderful also. beat construction is far apart right now but we will be meeting in new york in january to figure out musically where we are going. the live gig we did in november was wonderful, we learned how to play together so woo to that. now to the next step, putting together more music and getting a live show together.
The plan:
Small Tour in New York in July.
  • Current Music
cascades of color - ananda project (ebtg back to mine)
Beat Construction

Welcome !

Welcome to the Beat Construction journal. Beat Construction is the (side?) project of SoulFuse (liquidrhythm) and [dj] Hangman (hangman) - a place where the studio meets the stage, where electronic meets organic, where a drummer meets a dj and where experimentation meets classical training.

This journal will be filled with things relating to this project, including info about shows, details on studio work, essays, reviews, photos/graphics, and toasters (our equivalent of the kitchen sink).

The basics - [dj] Hangman uses studio production software in real-time, building up tracks on-the-fly using samples from hundreds of sources, genres colliding, melodies punctuated with atonal noise...all the while, SoulFuse locks down the rhythm on live drums and vocals. The essence of our band is the live show, which is played as if it were a DJ set - a continuous and evolving sonic experience. Welcome to the realm of those we call crazy future people.
