sorry this doesnt relate to the community but...

**Post this in your bulletins....your livejournal...send out mass emails..do whatever it takes...GET THE WORD OUT!**

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Me

hello

I graduated in 1994, and I remember the early nineties well, as well as the eighties.

I still listen to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana. I also still listen to The Lemonheads, Juliana Hatfield, Mazzy Star and Helmet, among many others.

I still have my old fake docs from 1991, that I can still wear. I can't wait til the Doc Marten trend comes back again..give it a few years.

Anyway, it was a good time in my life, and I'm glad I found a community to remember it by.

:)

Well, everyone and their Momma is talking about Kurt Cobain today, so why not one more?

I will always appreciate the effect that music has on our culture at large. Music is a bookmark for life. Think back to any event that's even remotely important to you. I would be willing to bet money -if I had any- that you would at least know what was on the top ten that month. Chances are, you have a song of your own-- no matter how obscure. I love this.

By the way, I was just talking to 1996 the other day. We're tight, you know.

I also appreciate the fact that, according to some theorists, the development of my own identity was just starting to get into full-swing when alternative music was at its genesis. Alternative was accessible, but unspoiled by commercial pretense.

I don't need the theories. I know, and I knew then, that I was learning how to be me. I loved every minute of it. Every revelation. Every fuck-up. And everything in-between.

All you emo kids out there, listen up. We're your older brothers and sisters. We were the (ridiculous, sophomoric, stereotyped subculture labelled) Alternatives. We were the tail end of the X generation; but not exactly X-- and definitely not Y. We were the ones who often explained, "the tubal ligation failed" or "my mom wanted another child so she didn't tell my dad she stopped taking the pill." We were the accidental generation.

We were fortunate enough to inherit our older siblings' discarded vinyl when they were done blaring it through the walls of their rooms.... fortunate enough to hear all the XTC, The Smiths, The Cure, Echo, New Order-- the great pop sound with a little je ne sais pas added in-- as they picked us up from school and skating rinks.

And when we were 12 that evolved into something more existential and jaded: we were blessed with Nirvana. My parents watched them on the screen with a leery eye, but they shared it with me. My brother gave me bootlegs on birthdays. My little skater boyfriend was as pathological as they get, but we snuck under his house and listened to them for hours.

Nirvana was the seedy, unkempt, dry, brooding Id of The Beatles. The three components of Nirvana -Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl- are strong and singular on their own. But like the Beatles, when those components stand alone they just miss something. They miss it. And that is something we will never get back.

As morbid as it sounds, I feel lucky to have been 15 at the time of Kurt Cobain's suicide. I came home from school and turned on Mtv, and heard the news. I realized everything I just wrote up there in an instant, and it was something that hadn't occurred to me in the three years I'd been loving Nirvana. For three years we'd all been picking out the twangy dropped tunings so we could play their songs in musty basements; I still know how to play their bass lines on my cello. In all this time it had never occurred to me that the mind behind that particular combination of notes and words was irreplacable.

The cliché is true as can be. You don't know what you have until it's gone. To have such an epiphany at such a young age is priceless.

Hey, I know that a lot of people probably LOATHE Courtney Love, but her new album is pretty damn good. I try to put her personality to the background and just enjoy her art on it's own merits. She really is amazing as an artist. I suppose I wouldn't care at all if she wasn't connected to Kurt Cobain, because I admit that is why I purchased Live Through This on the day it came out way back when....

OH! anyone who lives in the boston area should start listening to W.F.N.X. like right now. Their "Classic Alternative" format is awe inspiring. a mix of the all time best 90's rock with only the good new stuff from todays top alt-rock bands! It's like being 18 again for me! haha.
