Spedis Owl Petroglyph

This petroglyph, the 'Spedis Owl', was salvaged from along the Columbia River just before The Dalles Dam flooded the area in 1956. This carving is on display at Horsethief Lake State Park, Washington.
According to a [Pacific Northwest] Indian legend, the 'Spedis Owl' carving was placed on a rock to serve as a protector from the 'water devils' and monsters that could pull a person into the water.
The owl on a rock may have also indicated the ownership of that location for fishing.

"to get past the laser fence, you have to trick the guard (who's standing around outdoors in broad daylight) into thinking it's nighttime. You do this by making an owl hoot, at which the point the guard will exclaim "evening!" and hit the off switch."

there was an educational thing out here at a local farm about owls, so I went. They went and played some owl sounds outside and they would call back to it. I didn't see any though.
In conclusion, I learned that everyday really is owl.
