etbI just discovered that the pdfpages TeX package can add page numbers to PDFs. Here is a terrible shell script.
This usericon has never been so appropriate.
Sadly, it strips hyperlinks, because pdfpages strips hyperlinks, because we live in a fallen world. But IME, hyperlinks aren't terribly useful on paper.
