Sign, if you're American and you aren't a pawn of a tedious cabal of whiny journal publishers (you know, if you believe "open access = government censorship").

You may have to try to figure out whether you're in "engineering" or "physical sciences". I said "physical sciences" because it annoys me when CS departments are in engineering schools. Mathematicians can have one of their many lol moments of "math is not a science, but let's not tell anyone".

Pass it on! After Harland Z. Bovik (Harry Q.'s less well known brother) broke the chain, his local university library started requiring a user account for web access, and he could no longer "improperly" access the wealth of knowledge that could only have been produced through the wonderful, charitable indulgence of publishing companies. And henceforth his papers were only accepted by IEEE journals. Some say that's coincidence. I say: none dare call it treason. So don't break the chain.

it's incredibly painful watching academic publishers attempt to justify their charges, given their ever-diminishing role in the academic process. here's hoping they'll finally accept the future and pursue work that provides real value.
