As a followup to the previous entry, if anyone is looking for a villain (besides the usual suspects in Harrisbuuurrg (you have to say that in the manner of Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity")), County Execulolelative Dan Ononononorato should do nicely. He should be flailing about trying to get more local funding, but instead he's all "LET'Z RIGHT-SIZE U N00BZ!!!11! LOLLERCOASTER!!1!" The lesson from PAT having more vehicle whatever per capita than other properties* is that everyone else sucks. Obviously, the system has long since been "right-sized" compared to early-1900s population and service levels. (Or did I overlook all the buses running every 30 minutes at 3 a.m.?) But then IIRC he was all whiny about Rendell's flex-funding, so what do you expect.
* This is a technical term that, if you are transported back in time to the 1940s, will allow you to have intelligible conversation with traction company managers.
Also, the $2 "fare increase" proposal isn't much of an increase, because transfers become free and reusable, though they'll be good for 2 and not 3 hours:
- 1 1-zone ride: $1.75 to $2.00 (+14%)
- 1 2-zone ride: $2.25 to $2.00 (-11%)
- 1 1-zone ride followed by 1 1-zone ride within 2 hours: $2.25 to $2.00 (-11%)
- 1 1-zone ride followed by 1 1-zone ride after 2-3 hours: $2.25 to $4.00 (+78%)
- 3 1-zone rides, all within 2 hours: $4.00 to $2.00 (-50%)
- 1 2-zone ride followed by 1 1-zone ride within 2 hours**: $2.75 to $2.00 (-27%)
- 1 2-zone ride followed by 1 1-zone ride after 2-3 hours: $2.75 to $4.00 (+45%)
I won't even get into 3-zone rides because there aren't that many, and there will be even fewer if they cut service as planned.
