once upon a time, under a different penname, in a different fandom, e2b wrote fanfics. proud of her work and how she was growing as a writer, and excited about the positive feedback she received from the beautiful online community, she babbled excitedly to her mom.

her mom told her to write "real stories." it was very deflating; in just that phrase, she completely wrote off e2b's sense of accomplishment and, by extension, her self-worth.

e2b stopped writing fics, and was depressed for a long time.

now e2b is writing fics because eventually you learn your parents are just people, too, and wrong quite a lot of the time. so e2b is happy. and she just doesn't talk about it to people who can't understand.
