Taken - a poem
Taken
She rocks her chair to a lullaby,
Dreams of fairies in the candlelight.
She believes in magic, in changelings,
The children stolen by the winds,
Replaced by the withered, the sick,
The dead and dying of infancy.
A chill blows through the window,
Suffocates the flickering light,
Smothers the spark in her heart.
Now she knows, she is alone.
Barren fingers chill her body,
As darkness pervades her womb.
She wanders, arms empty, eyes alight,
Cradling a ghostly heartbeat to her breast,
Clutching at the last, the lingering,
The barest memory of a life barely lived.

Comprendre
Easier said. The words come quick,
Automatic advice from frustration.
He listens, head bowed. Again.
She needs his help, a crutch
To help her walk a worn-down way.
He has nothing, though, nothing
Left to give, words he won’t believe
In, come morning. He doesn’t accept
Her unabashed tears. She knows. She tries,
Her choked words meaning more,
More than he could ever know,
More than he may understand…
Softly spoken, this plea, this wish,
Her cry to the one who might be
A saviour or villain. She hopes, then,
That if he may never comprehend…
That you will.

It had been hard enough to get to sleep. The cave was quiet, but for Remus, the silence was louder than anything he’d ever had to experience. Every little sound was magnified, so when he heard the sharp bang, he was instantly wide awake and ready.
I’m sure that was someone apparating, but…
Apparition only meant one thing, though: a wizard was in their midst.
Creeping forward, Remus peered into the darkness beyond the mouth of the cave. He could see Greyback, talking with a man in a lime green bowler hat. Remus instinctively stiffened.
Fudge? That means…oh no!
