Recently I attended a permaculture club meeting at Douglas-Hart Nature Center.
I was one of three people showing up for the club meeting -- not counting my partner Doug, who is not a plant person and decided to stay in the lobby. The rest of us wound up sitting in the library instead of a classroom, since it has several cushy seats and a picture window overlooking the little wildlife area behind the visitor center.
We talked about permaculture in general, and what each of us is doing with it. I described my yard, which is about 2 acres of laissez-faire permaculture. One person is involved with the Charleston Food Forest, which I found very exciting since I love that place and try to visit several times a year. Another is more on the Douglas-Hart side of things, hoping to start something at the Friendship Garden, along with some community classes. We talked about different ideas to try and how to make those work. Mostly it was just geeking out over plants. :D It was a lot of fun.
I hope that I can go again some time. The meetings are on the first Monday of each month, always the day before the Poetry Fishbowl. That's awkward timing for me, but not completely impossible. It mostly depends on whether I can clear away enough other tasks to have time for an evening out.
Does anyone else have a permaculture club you like to visit?
