It seems that most people are either a tea or a coffee person.
As I write this, I am settling down with my default cup of English Breakfast tea. The rain is falling, I have a movie playing in the background and I am enjoying the relaxation that a Sunday afternoon cup of tea brings. If you'd told me that I would be saying this a few years ago, I would have laughed.
I used to very much be a coffee person. A self confessed coffee snob! I could not stand the taste of tea and would only drink freshly brewed coffee - instant coffee were dirty words to me!!
Then I started having anxiety attacks and the coffee had to go. Before I even knew I was having anxiety attacks, as soon as I started feeling stressed and anxious I started going to the cupboard to get a tea bag and made myself a cup of tea - starting with Lady Grey tea, as I still really wasn't a huge fan of tea. It soothed and calmed me. It seems that most people associate this with tea. If someone is stressed or upset or not coping, the first thing you usually hear is "Can I make you a cup of tea?"
I now have my favourite tea store, named T2, which supplies me with many amazing teas and tea accessories. The majority of my 100 Tea blogs will be about these teas, with a few other random tea things thrown in.
Today I want to talk about my first real experience with tea. It was making my grandmother a cup of tea. She was
very particular about how much milk went into her tea. I
never understood this, until I became a tea drinker. She would also say home much she preferred tea leaves in a tea pot to a tea bag - again, never understood the difference. Now I know exactly why she was so particular. If there is too much milk it isn't right and if there isn't enough milk it isn't right either. I personally like my tea milky, but I can understand her "only a few drops!" thing - I get very annoyed with people when they either don't leave enough room for milk or decide that "milky tea" means you want half a cup of milk with your tea. I can now also taste the difference between tea made with leaves and tea made with a tea bag. Thankfully, my tea store makes tea bags in special mesh bag which means you are brewing your tea with leaves, they're just in a bag (confused?) I wish I could now share this new understanding with Granny - sadly, she passed away before I discovered that tea was my tea of choice.
So now over to you, I've got a few questions for you to answer:
What is your default cup of tea? How do you have it?
What was your first experience with tea?
Have you always been a tea person, or have you converted? Or are you one of the rare breed who can drink both?
And yes, I need a tea icon to get me through this! This entry was originally posted at http://enomis57.dreamwidth.org/566…. Please comment there using OpenID.
