Crossroads pt 3

Neku felt his disbelief growing as he read the flyer through a few times.  "This has to be some kind of joke."  He muttered handing the paper back to Sora.

The man working at the front desk finally took notice of the two boys looking over the pamphlet. Not being able to ignore their conversation, he inserted himself into it instead. "Actually boys, the pamphlet is quite true. Mr. Kaiba went to great lengths to make sure that independent children could enjoy his park like everyone else. And yes, it's also true that Kaibaman's secret base is located underneath this very hotel."

And that was enough to hook Sora, who had actually seen the show.

"Kaibaman?"  The redhead didn't bother hiding his half-confused/half-exasperated expression.  It may have been the lamest thing he had ever heard though he had no idea who this Kaibaman character was.  Oh well he thought at least he had a place to sleep.

Sora was probably feeling the exact opposite emotions. Kaibaman was so cool. Kaibaman was a real superhero. Kaibaman could control dragons, and he fought for justice. It was probably the coolest person Sora had yet to meet. Sora couldn't hide the look on his face either, although it held quite a different emotion.

The man at the desk gave them each a key and showed the boys to a room. Taking some pamphlets with him detailing things he thought the boys might like, he placed them on the desk by the (flat-screen) television upon giving the boys their room. "You can stay her free of charge for up to a week. That should be a nice vacation!" With a smile he added, "You can always call down to the desk if you need anything. Good night, and have a wonderful sleep at the White Dragon Hotel." And with a slight bow at the door, the man left.

Neku looked about the obscenely nice room and his jaw would have dropped if he wasn't so skeptical.  He would definitely be locking all of the doors tonight.  Neku quickly staked his claim of the window bed feeling a bit relieved to be someplace this secluded.  He let his guard down slightly retrieving the black skull pin from his pocket.  He fingered it lightly hoping it would clear up his foggy mind.

Sora immideitely took to exploring the hotel room. He looked in the large bathroom, the hallway that led into the bedroom area, the pull-out bed with the TV, the microwave and coffee-makers, and the large, spacious closets! "Hey, Neku!" Sora called over. "Look! They have robes for us! Aww, man! They're sooo soft~<3" Sora wasted no time in exchanging his jacket for one of the soft light blue robes. The white dragon, stitched into the corner, was ever-present as always.  He came bounding back into the room, with a robe for Neku in his hands. Playfully, he tossed it at his companion. It landed on the foot of the bed.

Neku growled softly having temporarily forgotten the others existence for a few blissful moments.  He eyed the white robe wondering what the other expected him to do.  He didn't need it at the moment.  Seeing the way Sora was caressing the plush fabric it was an easy guess.  He grabbed the fabric and found it was indeed angelic soft-- much nicer than his pins that pricked his fingers. He slipped the pins back into his pocket and stood, robe slung over his arm.  "I'm taking a bath."

"Okay!" Sora plopped onto his bed, happily enjoying the mattress springs. "I'm gonna see what's on TV, kay?"  He took the remote from the bedside table and turned on the television.

The latching of the bathroom door was one of the most beautiful sounds Neku had ever heard.  He was finally alone.  He began to draw a bath, hot enough to sting when he got in.  Stripping down he submersed himself skin prickling with the heat.  Releasing a sigh he ducked his head under the water drenching his orange spikes.  His mind churned attempting to piece together what he couldn't remember in the thick steam.  Unfortunately the solitude wasn't much better than the bustling crowds.  Neku noticed distantly that with a blank mind all he could really do was over analyze what he knew.  The more he thought about his situation the more upset it made him.  He quickly washed and got out wrapping the robe around his thin frame.  His spikes now drooped to his shoulders and his skin was pink as he reentered the room. "Your turn."  He mumbled returning to his bed and fingering his pins.

Sora had found the Kaibaman show, and was completely immersed in the sentai-style action and cheesiness. It was probably the best thing he had ever seen in his entire life. "Oh...yeah." He wasn't completely there, and so decided that he would bathe during the commercial break. When it rolled around, the boy all but dove into the bathroom, and decided to run a quick shower, because the exciting conclusion was going to be on in ten or fifteen minutes. And there was no time to waste! He quickly scrubbed his head, rinsed the soap and water (stinging his eyes in the process) and hurridly scrubbed his body with soap. Rinsing that, Sora grabbed his toothbrush, put on a dollop of paste, stuck it in his mouth and ran back out in a towel, to see if Kaibaman would make it out of the demon's sanctuary alive.

Blue eyes glanced at the tv, several commercials for Kaibaland playing redundantly.  Either the amusement park was really that amazing or its owner felt it necessary to remind the boys exactly where they were and who was responsible for their stay.  Or maybe this city was freakishly obsessed with Kaibaman.  The show came back on just as Sora dashed out of the bathroom, virtually naked.  Neku rolled his eyes and went into the bathroom to retrieve the plush white robe and threw it over Sora's head.  "Cover yourself."

"Argh!" Sora pulled the towel off of his face and hair (which was slowly drying and returning to its naturally spikey state, thanks to the towel mussing it up) and put the long robe on, eyes back to the TV. The show ending, Sora was left with his jaw open. Kaibaman was So. Cool. "Kaibaman is So. Cool."

Neku rolled his eyes secretly catching watching the end of the show.  What else was he going to do?  It was sort of amusing, as in not totally irritating to see the brunet practically bouncing in excitement.  He could have found someone a lot worse.  Still.... "What are you doing in Domino, Sora?"

Sora stopped his Kaibaman impression in the middle of a sentai-pose and looked back at Neku. "Well," He relaxed from his posing and sat at the foot of the bed. "I'm looking for someone, actually. Something weird happened in this world, and I'm looking to see what it was and who caused it."

"Something weird?"  The only thing weird going on was Kaibaman, and Sora.  "Like what?"  Neku asked with reluctant curiosity.

Sora lowered his voice and leaned in close to Neku. "Well, I really shouldn't be telling you this, but..." His secretive tone suddenly changed. "But I'm the keyblade master. I travel to different worlds making sure they're okay and safe from the heartless."

The redhead was suddenly, violently regretting his decision to follow the boy.  He might not remember anything but he was pretty sure nothing like keyblades or heartless or whatever really existed.  The world was a boring monotonous place and Neku didn't need to remember to know that.  This kid was either extremely imaginative or crazy, probably the latter.  He scooted away slightly shifting his body in a more defensive position.  "Right...."

"You don't believe me?" Sora was actually surprised at the reaction. Most people actually understood exactly what he meant when he told them that he was the keyblade master. "Oh! Here!" He said as a matter of factly, and outstretched his palm. With a sudden glow of light, the aforementioned keyblade was in his hand. "See? Keyblade." He smiled, enjoying the feel of the item in his hand. It seemed perfectly weighted for him, and his comfort with the thing was reflected in how easily and, surprisingly nimbly, he manipulated the key in his hand smiling all the while.

Neku nearly fell over.  This was not happening.  No way in hell.   Yet the brunet was idly twirling the giant key as if it was the natural thing in the world.  Neku knew despite the gaps in his memory that magical keys didn't just appear out of thin air.  "What the hell is that thing? What's going on?"

"It's a keyblade, silly. Just like I said." He paused to smile confidently. "Now do you believe me?"

"I..."  Neku had absolutely no idea what to think.  The key hadn't been there and now it was.  What else was there?  He gripped his head painfully trying to process the unbelievable information.  "That is NOT normal."

"Well, not to you maybe." He shrugged. "But it's just normal for me and my friends. We're all from different worlds, different places. And what might be weird to some people is normal to others. I guess maybe that's why the keyblade chose me, because I know that no matter the circumstances we're in, we're all still the same inside."

Ok so the boy was clearly operating outside of normal reality, he could accept that for now. What bothered him was that he was actually considering his words.  ‘Still the same despite circumstances’?  Could that really be true?  Was it even possible to be the same person without one’s memories?  He highly doubted it.  "Ok, so you're some sort of magical boy from another dimension here to stop some sort of bad guy.  Do you hear how stupid that sounds?”

Sora looked at him quizzically, then shook his head,

"This is ridiculous."  Neku quickly changed back into his clothes and left, slamming the door behind him.

"Ahh! Wait!" Sora looked back as his new friend (could he call him that anymore now...?) left the room distraught and upset. He stood up to go after him, but a little voice inside told him that giving the other boy his space was for the best... He himself would be the one to wait for Neku.

Crossroads pt 2

"Nah." Sora shook his head. "I've already had enough earlier. You look like you could use a boost. Hey what's your name anyway? I'm Sora." He joined the boy in his alley-sitting.

Neku's frown deepened slightly at being forced to accept the tea.  He didn't want to accept charity but he had a feeling this kid was more stubborn than he looked not to mention he hadn't had any sustenance since waking up in Shibuya.  He popped the tab and took a quick drink of the warm liquid not bothering to say thanks.  The redhead hesitated at the thought of introductions, his name sounded stupid but those blue eyes looked so expectant.  "Neku.  Neku Sakuraba."

"Oh cool!" Sora smiled and shifted into a more relaxed position. It was something that you would see a kid doing on the beach, with their feet out and their hands behind them; relaxed and more than a bit carefree. "So are you from Domino, Neku?"

This kid jumped right into the personal questions.  This was going to be a problem.  "...Shibuya."  It might have been the truth at any rate

"Shibuya? Where's that? Sorry, but I'm, uh... not really from around here, I guess." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I guess I uh... wow. I guess I'm lost!" He began to laugh at himself a bit and smiled, despite his dawning awareness of his situation.

"It's about 5 hours away."  All Neku could think about was how pointless this conversation was.  He glanced out the mouth of the alley seeing to his dismay that the crowd was thicker than before.  Even if he couldn't be alone, Sora was better than the masses out there.  "I can't help you, I've never been here before."

Ohh... that's too bad, I guess." One would think he would be referring to the lack of help, but Sora continued differently. "What are you doing so far away? Isn't it getting a bit late, yathink?" Oh Sora, you and your Disney bedtime.

"...I just needed to get away" The sky was indeed darkening though Neku would hardly call it late.  He had never really thought about what he would do when he actually reached his destination.  He probably had enough money for a motel.  "I don't suppose you know where a cheap hotel is, do you?"  Neku questioned without a hint of optimism.

Sora shook his head. "Me neither. The closest thing to a hotel was around the amusement park I was at earlier. I don't know how much it costs though...sorry." Sora hadn't really thought about his predicament before. Sure, he could probably sleep in his bummi ship, but where would he hide something like that in a city with a lot of people anyway?  "I have a little munny, so we might be able to pitch in for a room somewhere?"

Neku weighed the possibility that this was all a ruse to rob him of his few earthly possessions.  People would do anything to get ahead after all no matter how friendly the appeared.  However it hardly mattered with his lack of funds.  It was either be robbed by the kid at the hotel or be robbed while sleeping in the streets.  "I guess that'll work.  Lead the way."

"Alright!" Sora hopped up with a new rejuvenation, completely aware of Neku's ever-present pessimism. By this point, the subway's rush hour was about over, and all the salarymen were already on their trains back to wherever they came from. Sora noticed this, and extended a hand to help his new friend up.

Neku ignored the offered hand and got up taking a moment to brush off his clothes.  He quickly finished his milk tea before discarding the empty can on the ground.  He regarded the other with an impatient gaze prepared to follow the brunette to a possible trap.

Sora looked at this action with surprize. "Hey, aren't you going to pick that u- hey!" The boy had walked passed him. His no-nonsense attitude reminded him of someone... Sora didn't really think that Neku's attitude was really meant to push him away, but was instead some kind of...whatever it was that makes Riku do what he does. Anyway, he quickly caught up to his newfound friend and managed, due to some miracle, to find his way back to Kaiba Land grounds. Oddly enough, the park was still open. A large clock inside the park showed that the time was 8:12 PM.

Neku blinked at the elaborate amusement park in mild shock.  The place was still bustling with children despite it being past most of their bedtimes.  He glanced at the brunette momentarily, deciding that this made more sense than he was willing to admit.  "So... where's the hotel?"

"Uhh....." He looked around for a bit before spotting it. "There!" He took off in the direction of a red awning with a considerably large dragon fountain in front of it. Three to be exact. Each one carved in concrete diving, swooping and shooting out "burst streams" of water from their tiny mouths. Sora took no notice of it, and went inside the building.

Neku visibly paled at the sight of the hotel.  There was no way he could afford to stay here unless Sora was secretly carrying a small fortune in his parachute pants.  He followed him into the lobby and felt awkwardly out of place in the lavish lobby.  "There is no way we can afford this."

In the short time it took for Sora to run in and for Neku to follow, Sora had taken a pamphlet for the hotel. the cover read "White Dragon Hotel" in large white lettering. In blue below it, there was a tagline that read "Please ask us about our emancipation packages and foster rooms."

The Crossroads of Optimism and Pessimism Pt.1

Sora and Neku meet in Domino City and find living quarters in an unlikely manner. WARNING: Contains Kaibaman.

The boy had been enjoying quite a nice time at the amusement park. After all, 'amusement' was right there in the title! He had just finished watching the live-action Kaibaman stage show, when he noted the time. "Aww man, it's getting kind of late!" He thought out loud to himself, and decided to leave the park. Soon he found himself back in the city. It almost reminded him of Traverse Town in a way. But... there were significantly more people who looked a lot more disinterested in the keyblade master.  It was a little bit scary, but he tries his clumsy best to go with the crowd. It didn't seem to be working.

The train came to a screeching halt the doors hissing open allowing passengers to come in and out.  Neku was jostled awake by the stop.  With a yawn he left the passenger car onto the busy platform.  It seemed that Domino City was a busier place than he had anticipated.  The noise and pressure of the oppressive hoards were making his head hurt.  The redhead pushed himself through the crowd hoping to get somewhere secluded quickly.

Sora noticed a lof of people coming from the same place that he had been. Maybe work was over for the day? Having been pushed all the way to the subway, he finally managed to pull himself away from the swiftly moving stream of people by turning into a short subway alley where there was only a hot/cold drink vending machine.

The sharp point of a pin dug into Neku's palm as he continued to push through the throngs of people attempting to board their respective trains and go home for the day.  He could instinctively feel a hand reaching for his back pocket its owner no doubt hoping to make some money in the jungle of bodies.  The redhead spun around blue eyes glinting dangerously at the criminal.  He could feel one of the pins in his hands buzz slightly.  "Back off."  He spat venomously unaware of the slight glow in his eyes.  The pickpocket stumbled slightly in surprise giving Neku the chance to hurry into a back alley.  He slumped against a wall and gripped his head that was suddenly pounding unaware the other presence.

Sora quickly spun around upon seeing the new figure. He didn't look so good, and Sora could tell. Putting a coin in the machine, he got a warm milk tea and rolled it to the stranger. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked sincerely.

Neku snapped back to reality as the drink hit his foot.  His head snapped up painfully to see a brunet with a look of worry on his face.  "I'm fine."  He sighed releasing his head.  He picked up the drink and held it back out to the boy.  "Take it."
