Inherited from Proto-Malayic *ləñap (cf. Minangkabau lanyok),[1] from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ləñəp (disappear under water) [2] or Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ləñəb (disappear under water). [3] Compare Sundanese lenyap (to nap), Makasar lannya (to dissapear), and Tagalog lanap (extensive flooding).
