- Replaces a repeated word to reduce repetition, such as in dictionaries
Usage notes
edit- Within bibliographic references, id. indicates a previously cited work, if there has not been another work cited in the meantime, & if the extracts - to which references are made - are close by or the same. If the references are on the same page, ibid. is used. If they are several pages away in the same book, op. cit. is used, accompanied by the name of the author & the page number.
