Perhaps from Oghuz تَلُو (telü:, crazy),[1] from Proto-Turkic *tēlbe. Cognate to Karakhanid تَلْڤا (telvē, crazy),[2] Azerbaijani dəli, Turkish deli, Turkmen däli.
