Unknown. A relation to avani (harassment, act of violence) cannot be ignored, although it's considered an Italian loanword. First attested in 1685 by Bogdani: "...mbasandaj për avant e turit, anëmijtë tanë të pakorët." The word was attested nowhere else.[1]
