editInherited from Ottoman Turkish آرغاج (argac, “woof, weft”), from Old Anatolian Turkish آرغچ (arġaç), from Proto-Turkic *arkag (“woof, weft”), a development of *ar- (“to woof”). Cognate with Azerbaijani arğac and Kazakh арқау (arqau).
