acıkmak
Turkish
editEtymology
editInherited from Ottoman Turkish آجیقمق (acıkmak, “to be hungry, to hunger”), from Old Anatolian Turkish آچقمق (açuqmaq, açıqmaq), from Proto-Turkic *āčïk- (“to hunger”), a derivation from Proto-Turkic *āč-.
/t͡ʃ/ to /d͡ʒ/ after the succeeding vowel due to original long vowel in the first syllable, compare also conjugated forms of aç (“hunger, hungry”) to observe the same instance.
Turkic cognates include Old Turkic 𐰀𐰲 (ač /āč-/, “to hunger”), Karakhanid [script needed] (ačïk-, “to writhe with hunger”), Bashkir асығыу (asığıw, “to hunger”), Kazakh ашығу (aşyğu, “to hunger”), Tatar ачыгу (açığu, “to hunger”), Turkmen ājykmak (“to hunger”), Uzbek ochiqmoq (“to hunger”), Yakut аас (aas, “to hunger”), Azerbaijani acmaq, acıqmaq, Gagauz acıkmaa
