Wiktionary:The Headword
The Headword is the English Wiktionary's periodical: a place where editors can voice their thoughts, announce their accomplishments, and make silly creations. It was founded in 2026 on the initiative of editors who believe Wiktionary has plenty of lexicography yet very little shared culture. We are inspired by the French Wiktionary's Actualités, which has been running since 2015, as well as other Wikimedia community publications. Why a journal? Our goal with this journal is to:
- Disseminate knowledge that can help editors work more effectively.
- Write high-quality, peer-reviewed linguistics articles with a particular focus on Wiktionary.
- Provide a forum for debating various editing "ideologies", like inclusionism v. deletionism.
- Keep the community updated on pertinent news and goings-on, but without amplifying pointless drama.
- Allow editors to showcase their creativity and contribute to Wiktionary culture.
