Borrowed from Yiddish סוצקעווער (sutskever), from variously Belarusian Су́цькава (Súcʹkava), Polish Sućkowo, Russian Су́тьково (Sútʹkovo) etc. + ־ער (-er), all referring to Sutkovo (Суцькава), a village in what is now the Grodno/Hrodna Region of Belarus.[1]
