From Proto-Common Turkic *čïg, *čïg-ïk (wet, soaking, moist; dew; moisture; raw). Cognate with Turkish çiğ (raw) and Turkish çiy (dew), Yakut сиик (siik, dampness, moisture), etc.

From Ottoman Turkish چیك (çiy), from Proto-Turkic *čï̄g (wet, moist; dew). Compare Old Turkic [script needed] (či, wetness, moisture). Cognate to Salar çıxsu, Turkmen çȳg (wet, moist); unrelated to Turkmen çīg (raw).
