Open sourcing dispute at Talk:Shebakia — input welcome
editFlagging an open dispute on Shebakia that may be of interest to project members. The article's infobox currently lists "Place of origin: Ottoman Empire" and the lead says "Chebakia is from the Ottoman desserts culture." Morocco was never part of the Ottoman Empire, and the primary source cited for both claims (Oktay and Sadikoğlu 2018, Journal of Ethnic Foods) has been assessed at WP:RSN by editor Boynamedsue as supporting "Ottoman dessert tradition" in the article body but not an infobox place-of-origin claim. The second source cited (Akdi and Achboun 2023) attributes the Ottoman label to unsourced fieldwork in a summary table. An edit request is open at Talk:Shebakia and the RSN thread is at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Shebakia: Is Oktay & Sadıkoğlu (2018) in Journal of Ethnic Foods being correctly applied to support "Place of origin: Ottoman Empire"?. Any members who are familiar with the sourcing around Moroccan cuisine are welcome to weigh in. Bohosquare1 (talk) 09:57, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
- Following up: both the Shebakia and Sfenj RfCs have now been open past 30 days with no formal close. I have listed them both at Wikipedia:Closure requests today. If any project members are interested in weighing in before a closer reviews the record, the Shebakia RfC is at Talk:Shebakia#RfC: Infobox "Place of origin" for Shebakia and the Sfenj RfC is at Talk:Sfenj#RFC. The DCWC is back!

Hey WikiProject Morocco, the Developing Countries WikiContest is back for a third year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.
Thanks to everyone who answered the call for coordinators, and please welcome the new faces on the coordinator team: the 2024 Gold Belt Buckle winner Generalissima (talk · contribs); and the record-holder for most India-related submissions in 2024, Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs)! Following feedback from last year, adjustments have been made to the scoring rules; discussion can be found on the contest talk page.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs).
