@Cornmazes: Thanks for updating the Missing biographies section at the top of the page. Super helpful. Sorry to see so many pages redirected. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:03, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
No problem, hopefully we can reinstate at least a few of them in the future. Cornmazes (talk) 14:04, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
We will! An editor seems to think being cast on Drag Race is like being cast on Big Brother. I'm not interested in arguing at AfD so it is what it is. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:07, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
(Unpopular opinion for this WP to follow). What most of the arguments boil down to is that unless the queen has been on another TV show *or* has otherwise gotten previous coverage before the season's contestants to get them *close* to the notability standard, they won't be notable when Episode 1 is broadcast. A few queens definitely become notable during the season (Sherry Pie comes to mind) and the winners at the end of the seasons. Beyond that, most of them probably reach notability based on coverage of the additional opportunities that they get as a DR Alumna/Alumnus. Note, for this purpose, I am *not* treating Untucked (or the equivalent) as another television show, but I *do* count the All-Stars/vs the world/etc. as a second one.
Honestly Nyongbella stands as a pretty good example. (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nyongbella&direction=next&oldid=1314837980) She has only been on DRUK, other than possibly being the first Cameroonian(?) and the third Trans competitor on DRUK, I can't find anything else that would raise her to the level of Notable. For queens that don't meet that standard, I'd *far* rather that the articles be created in Draft, and re-evaluated at the end of the season. If they get deleted due to being non-active for 6 months they can easily go through WP:REFUND if they get selected for All-Stars. Naraht (talk) 13:50, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't think your opinion is unpopular at all. This project has a strong track record of creating (and deleting) articles appropriately. Sure, maybe a few stubs were created prematurely, but the mass nominating of entries for deletion is not necessary, in my opinion. Every one of these pages at minimum serves as a helpful redirect. I expect several of these entries could be expanded, but I am not going to waste time working on articles at AFD. As evidenced by Draft:Dita Garbo, easier to work in the draft space. As for the UK series 7 contestants, I imagine those articles will be restored in the near future. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:03, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Naraht I hope you, User:Cornmazes and other project members will contribute to the many ongoing AfD discussions. There seems to be some disagreement regarding notability of people who have competed multiple times, so it'd be helpful if more editors would weigh in and come to a consensus on this. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:51, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'll be happy to, but as I said, unless they are near notable on the day before they are announced (such as being on another drag show) or unless something Sherry Pie level occurs during the season, I *generally* support redirects until the finale, especially if all of the references in the article are after the announcement. I'd like more information on an example of "competed multiple times" person. Something like DR:Canada and DR:CatW?Naraht (talk) 14:04, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Naraht: In the case of Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Drag_Race#Deletion_nominations, all of the contestants have competed at least twice. I know these are Dragula contestants and therefore not specific to this project. However, the nominator's rationale for deletion similarly applies to many Drag Race contestants. Competing on Dragula and Titans is similar to competing on Drag Race and All Stars (different series within the same franchise), so coming to a consensus here is important and relevant to this project. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:22, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sorting Queens as having "Last names".

edit

Right now, as far as I can tell, the following (US) queens have articles sorted by "Last Name" see Jiggly Caliente as example:

Note, Carmen Carerra may be the other way around. Although her Birth/Dead name is not in the article and as such I presume she has taken Carmen Carerra as her legal name, it is sorted as "Carmen Carerra", not "Carerra, Carmen".

Also, I can do this for other countries, but I thought I'd start with the US. I have a tool that shows me the Sort key on categories, I normally use it for sorting out things like bad infobox parameters, but for this, I'm just looking for Sort Keys with commas.Naraht (talk) 20:04, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Naraht Of these, only Jaremi Carey and Dwayne Cooper should be sorted by last name, as these are true last names. I don't see Kameron Michaels listed, but we have also decided to sort as "Michaels, Kameron", per Talk:Kameron_Michaels#Use_of_"Michaels". It is so annoying that the sort often gets changed back, both at the bottom of the article and in the "listas" parameter in Template:WikiProject Biography (talk page). I've asked before how these can be marked as NOT needing to be sorted by last name, but nothing really came to fruition, so I find myself correcting these over and over. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:09, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd start with using Defaultsort equal to the article name. At least then anyone fixing it knows that it was put that way on purpose and maybe follow with something like <!--Drag name, sorted by full name not last name--> (and similar on the listas) , you may have tried that already.Naraht (talk) 20:23, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was able to find some previous discussions, if helpful:
I'm struggling to find the discussion about flagging the "listas" issue to others. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:27, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Template:Drag Name created

edit

I have created {{Drag name}} and added it to the top of Silky Nutmeg Ganache as an example. Unlike other similar templates in Category:Hatnote templates for names, there are no arguments as it is somewhat simpler. I'd be happy to add any appropriate arguments. It may not fix the issues with default sorts, but it is a step in the right direction.Naraht (talk) 03:58, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thinking about it, having this will make finding the "last name first" default sorts easier. Any article with the {{Drag name}} should not have a {{DEFAULTSORT:StringX, StringY}}. When I have a bit more sleep, I'll write that. I know there are a few queens this won't apply to, but going through the contestant categories and adding to most of them should be a good start.Naraht (talk) 06:00, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Drag Name usage

edit

As I understand it, adding {{Drag name}} to A'keria C. Davenport means that any instance of "Davenport" being used to describe the queen should be changed to "A'keria C. Davenport" as well as making sure the sort of all Categories is "A'keria C. Davenport". Correct?Naraht (talk) 15:13, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

In cases where the queen belongs to a drag family where it is customary for drag children to take their drag mother's last name (and indeed treat it as a family name/surname)—e.g. the Davenports, O'Haras, Andrews, Mateos, DeVaynes, etc.—my thinking is that the template should not be applied.
Many of our drag queen articles (for example, Chi Chi DeVayne, Honey Davenport, and Asia O'Hara) contain sourced statements that the subject's last name is from their drag mother/drag family.
I think the template is generally appropriate in cases outside of the name-defined drag families (e.g. Plane Jane, Jiggly Caliente, Silky Nutmeg Ganache), unless there is RS documentation that some part of the drag name is a last name. Armadillopteryx 18:33, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
So whether or not a queen should have the template, be refered to by the last word of their drag name and change sort if they take a drag daughter that shares the same last word? (I.e. if next year Silky Nutmeg Ganache agrees that a queen can call herself Cold Vanilla Ganache) Naraht (talk) 22:20, 2 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would defer to RS rather than try to make a rule of our own. For example, sources like this and this refer to O'Hara as a last name. This source makes three references to drag queen last names. Articles like this and this use the phrasing the Davenport family and the Davenport drag family, respectively. This type of sourcing is probably most readily available for members of certain families, but examples outside of those groups exist as well (as in the Kameron Michaels discussion linked above). Armadillopteryx 01:50, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Armadillopteryx I apologize for dropping this. If you'd like to come up with a list of those where the last part of the queen's name has been used as a family name, I'd be happy to keep those as having a family name. I guess the question is whether the default should be to put the template on drag queens until/unless a RS exists that the last part should be treated as a family name.Naraht (talk) 21:42, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
No worries, and apologies for the long silence on my end as well. I would be willing to work on that list, though for transparency, I have a lot happening IRL and likely won't have time for a month or so. Not sure what the intended timeline is for implementing this.
I would say it is reasonable to apply the template by default but exclude it for subjects where sourcing refers to some part of the name as a last name.
Perhaps the template wording could be tweaked to mirror that of {{Patronymic name}}, e.g., This subject uses a drag name that does not contain a family name. The article properly refers to the subject by their full name. Armadillopteryx 19:06, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Jane Don't

I noticed Draft:Jane Don't, if any project members are interested. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:52, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wonderfulwordz (inviting since not only did they do this draft, they have started on Draft:Kenya Pleaser)
A bit thin compared to the ones that Another Believer has gotten through WP:AFC. creating articles Queens while the season is going on can be difficult especially if their only filmography is the show and the untucked (or equivalent). I presume that Untucked mention in the Filmography is actually Season 18, not 17. If WP:Too soon was listed in the decline reasons, I *might* decline it with that. It could sit for 6 months without a problem and by that point, there could be a lot more coverage to show notability
On the flip side, as far as I can tell, we have only *six* US RPDR queens from completed seasons without articles (S1:Rebecca Glasscock and Akashia, S4:Kenya Michaels, The Princess, and Alisha Summers and S6:Magnolia Crawford) so we'll more than likely get there eventually. (Of those six, Rebecca Glasscock is the only one to win a challenge and Jane Don't has won three)Naraht (talk) 19:36, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The draft has been declined three times. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:51, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Santino Rice article

edit

Hello. Honestly, just briefly caught some glimpses of Drag Race itself, but I was personally more drawn to Project Runway. Nonetheless, the article about former Drag Race judge Santino Rice may, if not definitely, need some further improvements please might look better with if some improvement were further made. Indeed, I've been working on the article about Rice for some while, if not long while, after working on other finalists in chronological order.

Nonetheless, plenty of other Project Runway finalists I may wanna work on, especially for the Draft:List of Project Runway finalists (seasons 1–5) [modeling after (pages seen in) lists of The Great British Bake Off finalists (not the set index itself, mind ya...)]. (Uncertain whether Draft:List of Drag Race finalists is a good idea, considering how well developed the articles about finalists appearing in season finales have been. ....Perhaps not, but I can stand corrected.) Anyways, for better comparison of the Rice article, here's the old revision (before I made huge revamp) and current revision (at time of posting this). "Drag My Wedding"

edit

Re: Drag My Wedding. I am still working on episode articles, but the episode "Drag My Wedding" seems to be unavailable on Paramount+. Does anyone know why? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:15, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Another Believer, as I could recall: the episode is unavailable on Paramount+, due to legal issues from a guest who wanted to sue the production company, because of the makeover challenge. Eventually, it was removed so they avoid a lawsuit; sadly, there isn't much coverage about this situation. Is it Juan? (talk) 03:39, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Is it Juan? Oh, wow, ok. I am also not finding much sourcing, which is kind of surprising, but I did make one update to the episode article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:55, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
