Hello VortexPhantom! The thread you created at the Teahouse, A user is deleting it's AFC notice., has been archived because there was no discussion for a few days.
Following a motion, the GSCASTE extended-confirmed restriction in the Indian military history case has been narrowed. It now applies to caste-related topics in South Asia, and the preemptive protection remedy has been amended accordingly.

Hello! I have spent days just perusing Wiki and have learnt so much from this platform. I am so glad to finally be able to help out by editing. Where do I begin really?, what do I have to read/learn before I begin? I have already made some test runs through some minor edits. My goal was to make an edit on article because what was being foretold has already happened and so it needs restructuring. It's all a little daunting. --IsadoraPenn (talk) 11:35, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Glad you asked! I advise you to edit some articles by using wikitext (wikipedia's own language), you can find how to use wikitext here. Choose any topic that you're interested in. You can start gradually by fixing grammar mistakes, etc. By time, if you achieve consistency, you will learn most of the things here. If you need any other advice, feel free to ask! ✓ortexPhantom (talk) 11:50, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Vortex Phantom,
Thanks for your detailed feedback on this article! I've gone ahead and added verifiable sources to all the claims you listed, including the election date. If you could review again, or provide any feedback in the meantime, that would be most appreciated. Thanks! Yojo98 (talk) 14:18, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate your work and glad that you followed my advice. If you believe that your draft can now qualify as article, then be patient, any other reviewer will review that, and give rationale if decline, which areas to work. Currently, I am busy at other projects and will be free in some days, then I will review your draft. Thanks for reaching out. ✓ortexPhantom (talk) 15:13, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi VortexPhantom, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

While I understand that additional citations are required to keep to Wikipedia's rules, I also wish to appeal to the team that Dachung Gyang is a well recognised local chief of the early to mid-20th century of the Berom peoples (predominant tribe) of the Jos Plateau; their first ruler in the contemporary world. To take down the page might be misconstrued by many followers of the bearer as unfair and somewhat condescending. I, as creator of the page therefore advise that the team exercise prudence in their decision and patience for members to collect more sources and content for onward addition to the article at least to upgrade it from stub status.
This will be discussed, that is why I have nominated it for deletion. The rule is simple, if subject isn't notable, article can't be made, even as a stub. I think you misunderstood the meaning of stub, stub indicates that subject is notable, but article has to be cover all aspects of subject, not brief mention and subject is notable when if either fulfills WP:GNG or WP:NBIO (in you case of biography). ✓ortexPhantom (talk) 14:44, 11 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, mentor! I'm a long-time Wikipedia reader but have only just decided to create an editor account and help contribute where there's gaps. The issue is, as a newcomer, there's a lot of information here to absorb and I'm a bit intimidated. I'm sure it becomes easier as I continue, but in the meantime, do you have any general advice for where to start besides the obvious auto-link suggestions & spelling/grammar fixes? Or even where to start to understand the core rules and complexities of this platform? Thank you for all the work you do! --DJLeamen (talk) 10:49, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
hi there! Firstly I want to thank you for joining wikipedia with aim to contribute. Many people reads wikipedia, out of readers, 1% join wikipedia, and out of joiners 1% contribute constantly. You are very rare, 1% of the readers. Wikipedia may look complex, but is very simple. Since you are new, I advise you to choose one field, where you want to contribute, there fields are writing and editing article on Wikipedia (most common), reviewing new edits that are mades across platform and choose that it doesn't disrupts purpose of Wikipedia (harassments, edits that are not sourced, test edits, deleting large section without any appropriate reason.
creating article that doesn't exist on wiki and you think it should be. Note: there are many, but these are most beginner friendly. Once you gain experience, you can move on to areas where advanced thinkings and knowledge of policies required. Out of fields I suggested, choose one of you like and msg here, I will tell steps that you should follow (for that particular area) ✓ortexPhantom (talk) 13:46, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, and thank you for you help with NPP! I wanted to let you know that I have declined your G4 speedy deletion nomination of Kadri Bistrica because the current version is not sufficiently similar to the version deleted via discussion in 2016. One clear indicator is that the article includes two sources published after the deletion discussion, with one published in 2022 and another published in 2023. If you think Bistrica still does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, feel free to renominate for deletion via AfD. Thank you! Hello, VortexPhantom. Per your request, your account has been grantedtemporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! HouseBlaster (talk • he/they)05:33, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Good morning @VortexPhantom, you have cited "Doesn't meet WP:NCORP, probably written to advertise company and relies heavily on primary sources." for the LegaSea article. How should I fix the tone or structure to meet the standards on the article? It is my first article and I am not affiliated nor paid to write the article, it is simply creating a new article for an organisation in New Zealand that isn't featured on Wikipedia. If you can give me any suggestions it would be appreciated. ThomasNiuNiu (talk) 01:47, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I assume that you are not connected to it, but even it doesn't follows neutral tone, it covers deeply about objective and activities of company, just like when written to promote it's ideology, products etc. Also, the article lack published books and article, or other materials from secondary reliable sources that have covered ORG with significant coverage, not just trivial mentions. You have added reference of company's own website which is classified as primary sources, which is not enough to establish notability. If you want to stop deletion, you may add reference of secondary reliable sources and improve tone, it may be saved. If only you establish notability, it will be saved, and even if other aspects are not good (such as tone), you will be given time to do that, so it is not a big concern. ✓ortexPhantom (talk) 10:05, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates
Latest comment: 24 days ago1 comment1 person in discussion
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
May 8–12: Discussion phase
May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

I edited the "Lets start here" album name by Lil Yachty, just to see and test if Wikepedia is actually editable, i noticed the name of the songs on the website were not accurate with the actual name of the song on some of the streaming sites, so naturally I changed it (with an anonymous account at the time). So I went back the next day to check and the edits were gone. 987.btw (talk) 11:18, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
Arbitration
The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on April 25. Please help translate.
Highlights
Community Protection: Wikimedia Foundation secured Indonesian government’s commitment to user safety, privacy, and content integrity ahead of administrative registration in Indonesia.
Stronger protections against bots: Wikimedia Foundation is replacing our CAPTCHA with a new approach to detect bad-faith activities without making things harder for users.
Transparency Report: The Wikimedia Foundation has published its latest Transparency Report. This provides an overview of the work to protect Wikimedia projects and support the volunteer communities who handle the majority of content requests. Our users trust us to protect their identities against unlawful disclosure, and we take this responsibility seriously, granting only 1 of 30 requests for disclosure we received from July to December 2025.
Reading Challenge: As part of the 25th birthday celebrations, Wikipedia Mobile Apps launched a limited-time feature, the 25-day reading challenge with Baby Globe. This challenge encourages a daily habit of reading one Wikipedia article. The goal is to motivate users to come back to the app regularly.
Latest experiments: One upcoming experiment is introducing the Incident Reporting System (IRS) to help contributors easily find the right place to seek help when facing harassment or other issues. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Change in how new users are autoconfirmed: The account age for autoconfirmed users will now start from their first edit, not the registration date. This is to avoid exploitation by vandals. This change will only apply to wikis that require at least one edit for autoconfirmation.
Organized Reading lists: All Wikipedia users with new accounts and those who activated the “automatically enable most beta features” option can now use the reading lists beta feature. This lets you save articles for later reading and keep it organized in one place for easy access.
Thumbnail size preferences: Default thumbnail size preference for article content is now limited to three sizes: Small (180px), Regular (250px), and Large (400px). This change aims to improve performance and reduce strain on thumbnail services. Current preferences will shift to the nearest new size.
Wikifunctions: To make the development of Abstract Wikipedia visible, the Foundation is requesting your input: which metrics about Abstract Wikipedia pages do you deem important?
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 18 and 19 include improvements on Global Watchlist. See also the 62 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Wikimania: Wikimania is a joyful event. It is a chance to celebrate our community and projects, share ideas and information, build connections among Wikimedians, and inspire and develop future projects. If you and your community are interested in hosting Wikimania in 2028 and 2029 submit an expressions of interest.
Community Conferences: The Foundation is supporting 15 strategic, diverse, and critical convenings taking place in 2026 and 2027, bringing together approximately 1800 Wikimedians across various regions, themes, and language communities.
Don't blink: The latest developments from around the world about protecting the Wikimedia model, its people and its values.
Wiki Loves Monuments: The winners of the 2025 Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest are announced.
Wikinews closure: All Wikinews have been closed and switched to read-only mode. Content will remain accessible, but no new edits or articles will be able to be added. This closure was approved by the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation following extended discussions.
For information about the Bulletin and to read previous editions, see the project page on Meta-Wiki. Let foundationbulletinwikimedia.org know if you have any feedback or suggestions for improvement!
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Hi, would you mind reverting your closure of the RFC at Talk:Harry Potter (character)#Request for comment on infobox image? I am having a hard time reading your summary of the closure, and I think, as written, it shows a slight misunderstanding of the issue. As well as that, I think you are saying that the free image should be kept, but conclusion would contradict the actual discussion. The ‘yes’ !votes clearly outnumber the ‘no’s, but also make better arguments, raising issues with the image that have gone unaddressed by those commenting ‘no’. —HTGS(talk)02:00, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
For instance: Ladtrack raised the point that the image conveys none of the important visual characteristics of the character, and so does not fulfil the encyclopedic purpose that the infobox image is there to convey, per WP:NFCCP.
I don’t want to cause offence, but I have concerns that your level of English is not adequate to properly judge on this complex subject. The number of votes is not my primary concern, but it surprises me that you were not swayed by either the weight of arguments or the number of votes. —HTGS(talk)10:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I apologies for not meeting your expectations. If you were judging my English proficiency on the basis of conversation, please note I generally allow minor errors only when any other person can understand it easily despite some errors because I feel much lazy to
meet high quality standards every time. However I don't do the same at articles. You are right to question my decision as I have no prior experience handling these kind of stuff. Since, non-admin closure is only intended for non-controversial closures I feel happy to reopen this RfC and let other experienced editor take over. PhantomVorteX(Talk)07:41, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello VortexPhantom,
New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026
Backlog update
At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.
After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.
2024 and 2025 NPP Awards
JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.
Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.
The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.
An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.
