Question

First and foremost, I salute you for your contributions here. Is there any way to view the article you created? When I use XTools even with specifying the dates, it says you have too many edits. DareshMohan (talk) 19:43, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DareshMohan: Is there a particular reason you're interested? I know a couple of workarounds, but nothing that identifies only articles. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:52, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
No, just curious. I know there are random Wikipedia page redirects online but interested to catch a few articles you created. DareshMohan (talk) 05:15, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Helo Sir,
I would like to request adding the following sourced information to the article.
Suggested text:
"In November 2025, Prasiddhi Singh was appointed as a youngest UNICEF India Youth Advocate, focusing on climate, gender, and livelihoods. She joined a new cohort of young leaders working to promote child rights and youth participation."

Hello, Ser Amantio, I'm sorry to bug you but I can't find your e-mail address. I wondered if you could give me any pointers on how to get my emended article on the Roswell Artist-in-Residence program (currently on my own user page) onto Wikipedia proper. I did update it and added even more external sources. Any advice would be most welcome! All best, Anne Midgette (whose Wikipedia article you edited). Never mind - I've gone ahead and submitted it to the editorial process so I trust they will tell me, eventually, whether or not it's ready! Thanks for your consideration. Classicalbeat (talk) 15:46, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Classicalbeat: Apologies, as I've been traveling for a few days (and have been pulled every-which-way between that and starting a new position at work for the past few weeks); every time I have meant to devote a proper amount of time to reviewing your article something has come up to pull me away. I should have a block of time tomorrow to sit down and look for fair, but I'm afraid you've caught me during a particularly busy period. Talk:Ricky Megee – unusual deletion request

edit

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao,

I hope you don't mind me reaching out. I noticed that you've been involved with this article in the past, including relatively recently, so I thought you might be interested in a request that I have posted on the talk page. If you have a chance, I'd be grateful if you could take a look. Toometa (talk) 13:58, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Toometa: The best way to handle this would be via WP:AFD; I would follow the prompts there and put it up for deletion. I will warn you: that's no guarantee that it will be deleted. But putting it to a vote would be the best way to go. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:53, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your reply.
My only hesitation was procedural. As I am making this request on behalf of the subject as a paid editor (with full disclosure), I wasn't sure whether it would be more appropriate to ask an uninvolved editor to initiate the AfD rather than opening it myself.
Both the subject and I fully appreciate that the outcome of an AfD is inherently uncertain and that the final decision rests entirely with the community. My concern was simply to follow the most appropriate procedure.
From your reply, I gather that you don't see any issue with me initiating the AfD directly, provided that my paid relationship is fully disclosed. Is that correct?
Thanks again, Toometa (talk) 19:21, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Toometa: Given that you've disclosed your COI, and that you're willing to abide by the results of any AFD, I don't see any problems, no. I would caution you, though, that I'm not terribly active over at AFD myself, and that I'm more open than numerous other editors to COI and paid editors as long as they are honest about their status and willing to work with/abide by the rules of the project. So I may not be the best person to ask on that count. If you like, I'm happy to initiate the AFD myself, in a few hours once I've taken care of some chores. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:26, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much, that's an incredibly kind offer. I would genuinely appreciate it if you were willing to initiate the AfD yourself. I know that views on paid editors can vary, even where there has been full disclosure, so I would feel more comfortable if the discussion were started by an uninvolved editor. Of course, there's absolutely no rush, whenever it's convenient for you. Thanks again! Toometa (talk) 19:36, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Congrats on such a big article in a big publication! "In effect, Pruitt—the person who has done more than anyone else to shape the English-language Wikipedia" isn't really true though, and I think Steve has disagreed with this too on his talk page in the past. Wikipedia is a product of so many people. They seem to confuse having a very high edit count with production of encyclopedia content and impact on AI models. In terms of impact on site infrastructure with mass categorization and repetitive tasks for smoother running, absolutely though. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 02:26, 1 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Dr. Blofeld: Well, yes...but I have to say, the article took it in some directions that I hadn't necessarily expected. (The journalist told me that she was interested in talking about AI, but it's honestly something that I've never given much thought to; a.) I don't understand it, and b.) I think we need to wait for a while to see how it ultimately shakes out.) I do think the peek behind the AWB curtain was rather nice, and something we don't get to do in a lot of articles.
Ultimately, my feeling about stuff like this is, it gives me a chance to solidify my platform, which gives me a chance to talk about why Wikipedia is important. And I'll never say no to that. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:01, 1 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I feel the same, Ser. I do these interviews because I think shining a light on Wikipedia is important. The more, the better. That said, as we Wikipedians are punctilious, we instantly recognize twists, turns, and/or misquotes. For example, while I said this during my interview, "In July 2015, at Wikimania Mexico City, Roger Bamkin and I launched a project called Women in Red..." the New Yorker printed this, "A few months later, Stephenson-Goodknight launched a project called Women in Red...". That trim of words is as jarring as leaving out women's names from 19th-century books and periodicals, the area that I focus on in my Wikipedia work. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:45, 1 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I think such exposure can only be a good thing for the project, it might encourage people to get involved and be inspired by you. And you did create many thousands of articles a while back, and later lots of those artist bios from people worldwide. I think one of the most remarkable things in particular is your consistency and dedication here and you have always seemed really optimistic about the project. Nice to see they also gave the background for Rosie's work. I think AI has massive potential, scarily so, and I think at some point the project will have to accept it when it becomes reliable. Eventually it will be much more reliable and productive than actual human editing, but at present it has a habit of finding phantom sources and content! I certainly think at the very least, AI tools for enhancing research and outlining should be embraced here when it is reliable.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:00, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Quite a few of your comments in the article deeply resonated with me and reminded me why I still keep coming back and giving my time into such silence. How bemused others seem when I tell them that anyone can edit and that we are all volunteers! Thank you so much, and if I ever meet you, I shall thank you again. Alas my only contribution to operatic history was washed out... Regards No Swan So Fine (talk) 21:27, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@No Swan So Fine: Thanks very much for the kind words. I have to say, even after twenty-five years I still marvel at the sheer amount of information left in the world that we have yet to categorize and to contain. (One day...and I keep saying this...I'll get back to article-writing, and get some of that stuff written down.) Sometimes I think there's too much focus on the current events side of things. Don't get me wrong; Wikipedia's good at current events. But I love it just as much for the incredible focus on esoterica that it does so well; I feel like if more people understood that, we might be able to attract a few more editors.
As for Pavarotti, I managed to see him once, in one of his last performances at the Metropolitan Opera. The kindest thing I can say, I think, is that I was there and I saw him...it was an event, more than any sort of artistic product, at that point.
I see, incidentally, that you have written up a few works by Britten and Vaughan Williams over the years...two of my favorite composers, both to listen to and to perform. (I do wish my current choir would do a little more Britten now and again, although I have been informed by some of the altos that they find him...traumatic, let's say.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:20, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mass addition of 'Use American English'

edit

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I just checked the error report at Wikipedia:Database reports/Multiple "Use xxx English" templates and found 35 new cases of articles which have two conflicting spelling tags. I noticed that they were almost entirely added by yourself, and to my horror found that you have mass added the {{Use American English}} tag to approximately 8,000 articles in this last week.

Please stop and read MOS:ENGVAR, and particularly MOS:RETAIN and MOS:TIES. Articles which are already written in another Engvar and which do not have strong ties to the United States should not be changed.

I can revert the cases in the error report. But I do not have the capacity to go back and check every one of those 8,000 articles you have edited. Please can you go back through each one and check whether:
a) It has indeed been written in American English (by checking for spellings like 'organized' vs 'organised'); and
b) If it is not already written in American English as above, does it have strong ties to the United States such that it should be changed to American English.

If neither of the above conditions are met, please would you revert your edit.

I must admit, this is on a scale I have never encountered before and I am unsure what to do. I am just going to tag a couple of editors more knowledgeable than I who may be able to help: Jonesey95, Zackmann08. I wonder if it would be possible for a bot or script to go back through and revert all of these edits as I suspect that an army of editors could not check them. I notice on your talk page above that you have featured in an article in The New Yorker for having made 6 million edits, but this is really not the way to go about it. Dgp4004 (talk) 14:07, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

On its own, tagging an article with a valid Use X English template is fine. This sort of careless edit is disruptive, however. The "Use Australian English is right there at the top of the page, where it belongs, so I don't see how it could have been missed (and this one, to Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia, is doubly inexplicable, given that "Australia" is in the page title). Surely there are groups of articles that are easier to select for tagging. Please be much more careful, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:26, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here's another inexplicable one: This article contains the word "neighbourhood", but Ser Amantio di Nicolao tagged it as "Use American English", with a tag dated this month. The date parameter in these templates indicates the last time that the article was checked to ensure that the variety of English used in the article matches the Use X English template that is present. Clearly, this article was not checked, so the date parameter should not have been applied. Please slow down and actually do the work required to apply this template properly. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:41, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is not the first time I have seen this sort of carelessness by you, Ser Amantio. I too fear you are more focused on how high of and edit count you can get and not on what the actual content of your edits are. I would like to hear an explination for how you allowed the above to occur. Absent a clear explanation I think an ANI to remove your AWB permissions is in order. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:09, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dgp4004: and @Jonesey95: my apologies. As you can see, I have become somewhat rusty with AWB; I used to be a lot better at it, and it appears I have forgotten more about its use than I thought I had. The simple fact of the matter is that I forgot to curate my categories properly; every mistaken article is in fact listed as an American series. What I forgot to do when developing the categories was to exclude already-templated articles. That was stupid of me, and it's a part of the process that I really should have done. I'll do a quick check now to make sure any strays have been caught.
You have my apologies; as I say, it's been a while since I've done this sort of thing. And it seems, again, that I've managed to forget more about the process than I expected. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:38, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dgp4004: and @Jonesey95: I've done a check, and I believe I've caught everything. Again, my apologies for the trouble. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:48, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry Ser Amantio, but I'm afraid that there are many more. You have only caught the ones which have a conflicting tag already. There are many more written in another variation of English but which weren't tagged as such and so don't appear in the error report.
For example, Year of the Rabbit (TV series) is written in British English (see 'organisation') but is now tagged as Use American English. Using categories for Engvar is quite unreliable because an article can be in several different categories and they do not necessarily tell us which Engvar is in use or which should be in use. Even if, say, 95% of your edits correctly applied American English, that would still leave a whopping 400 articles that have been incorrectly tagged.
Also, as Jonesey95 said, the date field indicates when the article was last checked to ensure that the correct spelling was being applied - it does not mean the date when the tag was inserted. But I think I am right in saying that none of the 8,000 articles you tagged have been checked? Which means 100% of the tags you added with a check date are incorrect. Dgp4004 (talk) 16:04, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dgp4004: Ah, dammit. Let me take a look at it - it will have to be tonight, but I think I'm just going to junk the whole set and take this as a lesson for the future.
For what it's worth, I did check a lot of what I was doing, and didn't see any errors that would lead me to have concern. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:31, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dgp4004: I've begun some cleanup, but I have an appointment this afternoon, so the rest will need to wait until tonight. Again, my apologies for the trouble. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:50, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
You need to actually use some method to examine the existing text of each article to ensure that it both should use and uses (per the template documentation: to denote articles that have American English spelling; emphasis added) the variety of English that you are tagging it with. Please go back and examine all 8,000 pages that you tagged, or remove the tags entirely. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:56, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jonesey95: Per the above: I have begun some removals. I have an appointment, again, today, but hope to have some time this evening to continue; otherwise it will have to come about tomorrow after work. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:56, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Coincidentally, I was adding this template to American film and television show articles at the same time as Nicolao. I did not make the mistake of adding it to articles with existing English variant templates or with significance to other English-speaking countries, but it also did not occur to me to check for words with non-American spelling. I am doing so now and cleaning up both my and Nicolao's mess to the best of my ability. Staryu 08:28, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Ser Amantio, I really need your help. I rewrote the article Battle of Ctesiphon (263) from scratch using reliable sources and proposed the article title change in the Talk page, because the article contained several inaccuracies and historical issues. But unfortunately it got reverted, and I asked a few editors for help and contribution, but looks like nobody cares, so I need your help restoring the edit and fixing the article. Thank you. ~2026-44945-33 (talk) 13:10, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-44945-33: No. Quite apart from the fact that I am not especially interested, or well-versed, in classical or military history, I'm not in the business of restoring edits that other editors have undone. You need to speak to the reverting editor and ask them for advice about what you did wrong. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:04, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I requested the page move and I'm waiting to see what happens next. Thank you for your attention. ~2026-45181-18 (talk) 11:32, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thinking of you. I had three bios in the news section when the day began, and Jill Gomez is my favourite, - my story of course! - Places are particularly bright today: for a Voces8 concert you would have loved. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:11, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
