Madsen

Hi, You removed material that had been discussed and debated and ultimately agreed upon over the course of months by many editors. It was extremely well referenced with reliable sources. Your edits were against that consensus and it is never a good idea to delete RS refs. Perhaps you could take some time to read the welcome links and learn the policies and practices of wikipedia. WP:COI

From your announcement on my talk page and previously here at wikipedia of your real life identity, you are clearly friends with Wayne Madsen. You wrote the introduction of his book. He plugs your books on his site. You have written columns and guest editorials on his site. You have written blurbs for his books. He appeared in your film. This is considered a conflict of interest here. It is not against policy to edit if you have a conflict, but it is an issue and considered problematic. Please view WP:COI for guidance. This subject is likely notable, but people may try to delete the article if it doesn't have more independent, reliable sources that help establish notability. None of the sources appear to be available except on paper; while that's not a "fatal" problem it makes it hard to verify. The interview can be used for WP:ABOUTSELF material, but cannot help establish notability. The exhibition is a fact that belongs in the article; an event is not a source, so it does not belong in a reference citation. If the Houston Chronicle article is available online, linking it would be a good idea. What is the material in Washington Art Matters? Does it just mention him in passing, or presented in-depth material about him? Anyway, adding more sources, by reputable publishers, with links, will be proof against deletion.

Hi Nyxion, It looks like lots of cuts have been made to the page I created for my father, Leonard Anthony Bracken Jr., back in October, where I acknowledged my conflict of interest. The page is now as neutral as I think it could be (on the bland side in my opinion, but that's okay). Would you alone or working with other editors consider taking off the COI notice now that it has been reviewed and edited by others over the past almost four months now. I don't feel comfortable removing the tag just yet. You can write on the article's talk page to see what other editors think but as it stands, I do think the tag should remain. I have also noticed an excessive references directly from self-published sources (i.e., the lenbracken.com site) and have added a tag to address this issue. I understand, Nyxion, but please do note that the references from lenbracken.com are scans of published materials, such as from the New York Times, or other legitimate documents, such as texts that went with the medals or diplomas. Can you let me know, is the article part of the main Wikipedia or an auxiliary listing of articles with these sorts of problems? Lenbracken (talk) 16:01, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for your response, by the way... I am grateful for all efforts regarding this article... it is the distillation of many years research into my father's biography and closely tied chronology... distilled down by me for Wiki and now by you and other editors... I did notice that they were scans of published materials and/or other documents but unless the information can be verified using reliable sources where these materials and/or other documents appear, the scanned images on your website are just... images. I am sure they did appear in places you suggest, such as in the New York Times, but unless you are able to link to the actual published material and/or a reliable copy of the print version in digital format from a reliable source, everything referenced in the article that has a citation back to lenbracken.com will be challenged by other editors.

As the article stands, it relies far too much on self-published/primary sources. I would suggest you spend some time trying to find reliable sources that can verify the scans you have published of newspaper clippings, etc. For example, where did you get the scans from? Do you have original copies of them are were they found online? If they were found online, it is much better to link that as the source rather than your own website where you have published those scans. If they were not found online, try to see if they can be found using sites that store historical newspapers or copies and link directly to those instead. Thank you, yes, these were the original articles from my father's archive. I may be able to find links to some articles online, such as the NYT, but that probably won't be possible for pubs such small local newspapers that reported on military changes of command or for the Soviet book. I'll try to improve some of these sources before coming back with a request to remove the note. I am grateful that the article has stuck as I do think my father merits it and it is important for me and for his colleagues how have helped me over the years with edits.
