FYI: when you spot a hyphen-minus being used when it should be an ndash, could you correct it using {{snd}} rather then just swapping the symbol? Doing so also corrects the risk of an ugly line break (the line should end with a dash, not begin with one). Thanks. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 09:13, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

Your usage of the publisher parameter

Why do you change website to publisher when the documentation of {{Cite web}} explicitly says that is not what it is for? "The publisher is the company, organization or other legal entity that publishes the work being cited. For self-published works (i.e., where the publisher is the same as the author or creator) state |publisher=self-published. Do not use the publisher parameter for the name of a work (e.g. a website, book, encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine, journal, etc.). If the name of the publisher changed over time, use the name as stated in the publication or used at the time of the source's publication. Corporate designations such as "Ltd", "Inc.", or "GmbH" are not usually included. This parameter is most commonly used for books, and rarely for websites or periodicals (although it may be used instead of work in some cases). Omit where the publisher's name is substantially the same as the name of the work (for example, The New York Times Co. publishes The New York Times newspaper, so there is no reason to name the publisher). The problem is that the "work" and "website" fields italicize the name of a publishing entity, while the "publisher" and "agency" fields do not. This creates many citations where organizations like BBC News are italicized as if "BBC News" is a work (like The New York Times), which it is not. My edits are intended to correct this. I can try to be more vigilant about specifying "agency" versus "publisher" in the citation, though they will appear the same on the front end. --Jprg1966 ^(talk) 18:54, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Why is that wrong? BBC News is a website... we italicize website names in citations, whether it is a proper "work" in the classical sense of the term or not. If you go to the BBC News (disambiguation) page, the name "BBC News" is only italicized as specific radio or TV programs, not as the channel or website. This is also the case on any of the individual pages linked there. --Jprg1966 ^(talk) 23:04, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

The way the template is set up, it has work/website as a required parameter, which creates like 2 warning menus you have to click through. I started a discussion on the CS1 talk and pinged you so maybe we can just find some way to turn the italics off? PARAKANYAA (talk) 22:32, 10 June 2025 (UTC)

PARAKANYAA, where are the warning menus supposed to appear? I have been using this formatting for many years and don't remember ever having error notifications or menus pop up. The CS1 templates have it set up a required parameter, so if you try to use it on visual editor or anything else that uses templatedata with any source using those two templates it makes you click through warning menus. It's also just an incorrect use of the parameter. The consensus from past discussions seems to be to use work, see . PARAKANYAA (talk) 22:40, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
