Draft:Doug Gilding

edit

Hi Larry! I saw you on the Crime and Criminal Biography page, and thought I'd message you...I'm new, and am still learning. I'm just a child psychologist girl, no skin in this game, but saw a documentary about Gilding's case and efforts at advocacy by writing reform legislation; and then I started down this rabbit hole. Apparently somebody from Georgetown University had put together a page last year, that was deleted. I decided to try and make the page "publishable", and began this journey. I feel like Gilding's case and advocacy are at least as notable as Ryan Holle's and Jennifer Mee's; who have both had pages for years. And of course, with the diverse opinions here on wiki, I've had some editors say the case is notable and give me advice, which I follow, then other editors will say it's not even notable...very discouraging. Anyhow, I never would have guessed there is such a huge "machinery" behind wikipedia! It is truly impressive! And I was hoping you might put a fresh set of eyes on the Draft:Doug Gilding page, since you seem well-versed in criminal biography pages. If indeed the page is not worthy of publishing, I guess I wasted my time on it; but it was a learning experience! Any input you might have would be great! Thank you in advance for your time - Nikki :-) ~2026-34066-75 (talk) 15:55, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, you're mistaken. I posted there precisely because I don't have much experience with criminal biographies and wanted to alert people who do of a discussion that requires input. Cordless Larry (talk) Cordless Larry (talk) 19:08, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your work on the 2026 Bellfast Riots page.

Anti-Somali Sentiment WP:OR Edits

edit

Hi, any chance you can take a lot at this: User_talk:~2026-38250-11#Edits_to_Anti-Somali_sentiment he's made several edits on said article that qualifies as WP:OR and is conflating a "nuisance live streamer YouTuber" who is allegedly half Somali and half Ethiopian in said article Johnny Somali. I don't want to get into 3RR with said user and need and admin to take a look at this. Thanks.—JoeJohnson2 (talk) 19:07, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have not reverted the Johnny Somali material, carefully review my edits. There is no need to bring third parties into this. I have left it as is. My revert was regarding the continental groupings (Africa vs Western world). I left a comment on your talk page on my stance on Johnny Somali. I am of the opinion that he has indeed incited anti-Somali sentiment in Eastern Asia. However, if there is no consensus for this, I won't bring it back. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 19:12, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
If there's a content dispute, it should be discussed at Talk:Anti-Somali sentiment. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:51, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
The matter has been settled between me and JoeJohnson. I promised not to bring back the contested material. No admin action is needed. Sorry for the inconvenience. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 20:01, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Potential sock puppet or bought account. Investigation request.

edit

Hi Larry, can you possibly look into whether JoeJohnson2 is a sock puppet? His 2009-2025 editing history does not match his 2026 editing history whatsoever. Seemingly his wiki editing interests completely changed from no interest in the Horn of Africa to a sudden hyperfocus on HoA related articles. This is quite suspicious in my humble opinion, almost as if we are dealing with a bought or otherwise exchanged account. I hope you can look into this. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 20:59, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

This is a meritless accusation made in retaliation for a content dispute. I have been a registered editor since 2009, with a history of focusing on sports articles, specifically Kobe Bryant's era with the Lakers images, and have simply expanded my editing interests to the Horn of Africa in particular Somali. Absurd accusation from an account that has no history aside from edits in Anti-Somali sentiment yet states here "I rarely edit pages".—JoeJohnson2 (talk) 21:26, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
The same way I edited Kobe Bryant pictorials/media/captions here in 2009 is the same way I'm updating the pages on the Somali content seen here: LINK. I like good visuals and I'm always in the commons section looking for images in the public domain etc.—JoeJohnson2 (talk) 22:08, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Obviously I would not have known about you if we didn't interact recently. Nevertheless, my raising of a red flag on your account activity is not absurd. Banned users are rife, especially on emotionally charged topics like race or ethnicity. Your editing history is highly suspicious: zero prior interest in Somalis (2009-2025, 16 years!), yet an obsessive focus on Somalis since 2026. This fits the profile of a purchased or exchanged account: i.e. banned for editing Somali material followed by either an account purchase or exchange. Any sophisticated ban evader might attempt to simulate the prior persona to deflect suspicion. I remain unconvinced of your attempt. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 02:59, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is a serious accusation of ban evasion and account selling, made with absolutely zero evidence, simply because the user is unhappy that standard Wikipedia policies on reliable sources and weight were applied to an article. I have repeatedly encouraged (the user) to use the article talk page to seek consensus and reminded (the user) that Wikipedia is not a forum. I am done engaging with these baseless personal attacks and will leave it to the administrator to review the evidence. —JoeJohnson2 (talk) 03:43, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
WP:BANEVASION I have laid out why I think this is the case. Ban evaders do purchase Wikipedia accounts and in my opinion your account has all the hallmarks of having been exchanged. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 03:48, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not a checkuser. If you have evidence of sockpuppetry, you'll need to present it at WP:SPI. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:52, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. ~2026-38250-11 (talk) 11:05, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you genuinely believe this account is a sockpuppet or purchased, please follow the admin's advice and file a formal case at WP:SPI. I fully welcome a CheckUser review to put this matter to rest. Otherwise, please drop these baseless accusations and stick to discussing article content per WP:TALK. —JoeJohnson2 (talk) 15:59, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
