Oxyeleotris colasi

edit

Hi. Re your request for the paper on Oxyeleotris caeca, my French contact is still searching for it. In the meantime, he kindly but slightly randomly sent me the paper "Oxyeleotris colasi (Teleostei: Eleotridae), a new blind cave fish from Lengguru in West Papua, Indonesia". If you're interested, I can zap it over if you drop me an email? I note that Oxyeleotris colasi is a red link. I am not really a zoologist. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 15:53, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi @SunloungerFrog, thanks for looking into this. I think I found that paper on researchgate, so if it's that one then no need to email. They probably came across it as it is in the same journal, I think. O. caeca and O. colasi are likely convergent evolutions, possibly from the same related Oxyeleotris species. I think any frog surely has the power of a zoologist inside them? CMD (talk) 00:37, 6 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
It is indeed that paper. any frog surely has the power of a zoologist inside them Ha, maybe you're right and I should give it a go! Anyway, I'll let you know if there is any further movement on the O. Caeca paper. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 06:24, 7 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Acronym frequencies

edit

I processed the past ~year of ANI threads to get the most commonly cited acronym'd pages. Here's the first several results:

WP:IAR appeared at rank 78 with 41 mentions (plus 3 as WP:IGNORE) and WP:GNG appeared at rank 60 with 51 mentions. Some caveats for this are that this counts, for example, wp:competence and wp:cir as different. It only counts actual links. And I used an extremely simple regex that tried to not include acronyms that "shouldn't count", like linking to a discussion that has an acronym in the title. A parser would be much better. But I guess it's good enough for a first approximation. closhund/talk/ 09:23, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Fantastic work @Closhund. The caveat about counting links to the same page differently is a benefit given the question at hand, which is what a user might see the most. A new user would likely not know wp:competence and wp:cir lead to the same place for example. Understandable that CIVIL is higher than CIV. The environment of AN/I definitely showing through in those top ones. CMD (talk) 09:33, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please can you help me create a Wikipedia Article about "Benjamin Angeles"?

edit

Good morning @Chipmunkdavis, please can you help me create a dedicated Wikipedia Article about "Benjamin Angeles"? He is known as a Filipino Singer-songwriter on google search. Please help me. Thank you! ~2026-25403 (talk) 02:53, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi @~2026-25403, does Benjamin Angeles have coverage in sources such as newspapers? If there are at least 3 in depth profiles or something like that, that makes it much easier to make an article. CMD (talk) 03:25, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the event earlier.

January–February 2026 NPP drive - Phase 2

edit
NPP unreviewed article statistics as of February 02, 2026

Welcome to Phase 2 of the January–February 2026 NPP drive. During Phase 1, we reviewed 16,658 articles and 4,416 redirects, and there is currently a backlog of 16,475 articles and 23,782 redirects in the queue. Fantastic job! Completing 22,502 patrols in the first phase made a significant dent in the backlog. Let's keep our foot on the gas for Phase 2, and I hope we can achieve even more reviews than Phase 1. Best of luck!

On GAN

edit

Hi Chipmunkdavis! As mentioned at WT:GAN#Questionable review?, I find the competence of the GAN reviewer to be somewhat questionable. Since I am planning to promote the article to FA, I was hoping to receive constructive feedback during the GAN stage to improve the article before submitting it for further reviews, and the current situation concerns and worries me deeply. I am not sure what to do at this point. Should I ask for a third opinion, or is there anything I can do to help Roblox navigate the GAN process properly? I look forward to your advice and thank you very much! —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 14:56, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I left a message on their talkpage earlier today, the best thing to do for them is give advice over time. Regarding preparing for FA, your process is understandable, but I would move on to a WP:PR where you reach out to relevant active WikiProjects and perhaps FA mentors. That process can elicit much more specific advice regarding what is needed for FAC. CMD (talk) 15:45, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for reaching out to Roblox and discussing the issue with them! Yes, I will definitely submit the article for PR later, but since in my previous GA reviews, all the reviewers were very meticulous and provided a lot of constructive feedback that helped me improve the articles, and I originally thought I could benefit from their input again as I prepare for my potential first FA. I have left some advice for Roblox and will try to guide him through the GAN, but if any issues arise, would you mind providing a fresh pair of eyes or a third opinion? Many thanks!! —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 04:38, 19 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Appreciation for your approach

edit

Thank you for helping ground discussions in relevant policies and sourcing considerations. I appreciate you taking the time to link guidelines and explain the reasoning behind concerns. This type of educational-approach helps uplift members of the community.

Redirecting debates between editors toward concrete issues like sourcing expectations makes it much easier for editors like myself to understand how to improve contributions. Your approach is a great example of keeping discussions constructive, respectful, and policy-driven.

Thanks again, keep up the great work! Jpstrommen95 (talk) 04:25, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the sentiment Jpstrommen95, contributing to English Wikipedia can be tricky at times but at its core a generally being open and collaborative gets you a lot of the way there. CMD (talk) 05:31, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Linking the word 'here' (on top of your user page) leads to mysterious behaviour for those with screen readers. Could you change it to a more descriptive link (Like 'Leave me a new message')? Thanks! —Femke 🐦 (talk) 15:07, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Femke, do you mean Template:User new message? That is a template that hasn't changed since the ancient days of 2005. Assuming Template:Talk header and the WP:Teahouse have it right in linking the whole sentence, I've added a custom button which I hope avoids the mysterious behaviour. About State of Singapore

edit

I agree that it can be shortened by history and could be regarded as an extension of 'Colony of Singapore'. But I think it can be developed as independent article, because there are numerous other examples like Dominion of Fiji or State of Malta. Although it was 4-year- entity, I think we can make some cooperation with other users from Singapore and Malaysia to improve articles about State of Singapore and Singapore in Malaysia. NZ Bunnies (talk) 04:17, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please keep the exiting discussion together. It's always possible to say an article could be developed, but this one has not been. Splitting a tiny article into two tiny articles only removes context from readers. CMD (talk) 05:45, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree with your view, and I would take that advise. You want to say it is too early to split the article, because contents of 'Colony of Singapore' itself hasn't enough volume. I'll try to start the work right now. Thank you for your reply. I think I know what I should do next. NZ Bunnies (talk) 09:51, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's not just about being early, how does it help a reader? The current article covers a coherent historical period. Before a split, it shoudl be clear how the new articles would help reader understanding. CMD (talk) 10:26, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. January–February backlog drive

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

May backlog drive

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026.

PageTriage

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.
