ON TV was an American subscription television (STV) service that operated from 1977 to 1985, mostly owned by Oak Industries. ON TV represented the equipment manufacturer's foray into the communications industry. Subscribers paid money to rent a decoder box and receive monthly service, which was broadcast in scrambled form over eight UHF television stations and featured movies (including softcore pornography for an extra charge), sports, concerts, and special events. While ON TV operated the most successful STV service in the United States, in Los Angeles, the business dwindled after 1982 due to the rise of cable television, signal piracy, and a poor economy, as well as several content disputes with individual stations over airtime and adult programming. The last ON TV operation, in Chicago, closed in 1985; the eight stations each reverted to commercial programming, three of them becoming Spanish-language stations.

First Coast News (3)

First Coast News is the newsroom of television stations WTLV (channel 12) and WJXX (channel 25), the NBC and ABC affiliates in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is owned with the stations by Nexstar Media Group. The First Coast News brand was first used by the stations on April 27, 2000, in the wake of Gannett's acquisition of WJXX the month before and consequent expansion of what had primarily been WTLV's news department.

1989 South Florida television affiliation switch (7)

On January 1, 1989, six television stations in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida, markets, exchanged network affiliations. This event, dubbed the "Big Switch", affected some three million TV viewers. The switch was initiated when the NBC network bought WTVJ, an affiliate of rival network CBS. CBS opted not to affiliate with NBC's old Miami affiliate, WSVN, and bought WCIX, an independent station whose signal for technical reasons could not adequately reach the northern portions of the Miami market. To solve that problem, CBS induced an affiliation switch to the north in West Palm Beach from WTVX to WPEC, previously an ABC outlet, which had a better signal in the same area. Because of its location in slower-growing Fort Pierce, ABC spurned WTVX in favor of the under-construction WPBF in West Palm Beach, whose owners also agreed to pay the network in the first ever reverse compensation affiliation in American television. The impacts on each station were substantial. WTVJ and WFOR-TV (WCIX after a 1995 channel change) remain under network ownership. WSVN, which obtained the Fox affiliation, adopted a news-intensive format and became nationally influential for its style of "if it bleeds, it leads" journalism. WPBF had to ramp up quickly to establish a previously unforeseen local news department in time for sign-on. Left to become an independent, WTVX's value declined significantly, and its existing news department closed after eight months.

Nebraska Television Network (5)

The Nebraska Television Network is a group of television stations that serves as the ABC affiliate for western and west-central Nebraska and the Fox affiliate for west-central and central Nebraska, with studios in the town of Axtell, Nebraska, near Kearney. The first station in the network, KHOL-TV (now KHGI-TV), began broadcasting in December 1953 and by 1965 had grown into a four-station network providing ABC programming to Nebraska's Tri-Cities and the North Platte area. The network was diminished in the 1980s when KCNA-TV at Albion was split off; it is today KLKN, which is the ABC affiliate for Lincoln. In the 1990s, NTV began programming and later owning Fox affiliates, including KTVG-TV, which broadcast in Grand Island from 1993 to 2010; KSNB-TV, which was converted from ABC to Fox and continued in that service until 2009; and KFXL-TV, which broadcasts Fox in the Lincoln area.
