INTRODUCTION

My name is Charles, (or Charley is fine) and I am a USDA Forest Service volunteer fire lookout. I am qualified to operate the Vetter Mountain Fire lookout tower for the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 fire seasons as a member of the Angeles National Forest Fire Lookout Association (ANFFLA).

The association is a non-profit group that works in partnership with the Angeles National Forest. I am presently serving as an active fire lookout, board member (secretary), and public information officer for the organization.

VOLUNTEER

I volunteer my time for several organizations, not all of which I shall document here. My favorites are as follows:

Charles White uses an Osborne Fire Finder to to obtain the radial and distance to a suspected fire. From these measurements he will call in a "Smoke Report".

MY WIFE

My wife, Susan White, and I met via Match.com. She also joined ANFFLA and we enjoy spending as much time with each other.

This picture is of her during her in-tower training session. The smoke cloud in the background was a small fire located in the West Fork of the San Gabriel River.

About me

Hello and welcome to my userpage. I really support the Wikipedia concept and noticed a lack of information regarding wildland fire information. Most of the existing information was very generic and too general. Using my knowledge and sources of existing information I would like to work with other Wikipedians to document the wildfire services.

I had a column in the 1980's Interface Age, and Computer User Magazines. Also recently was quoted by CIO Magazine.

As a licensed pilot, I had to learn to read the weather. With my love of sailing and outdoor hobbies I can enjoy the science of weather. Now as a firelookout I have to take readings and keep a constant eye on changing conditions that can effect fire behavior.

Blade Runner

This user thinks Blade Runner is one of the best science fiction films ever made.

Maybe not the best sci-fi ever, but really was cool

I am what I am, thanks Carl Sagan. I had a great conversation with him while we both sat on a wall. I told him I work at the job I do because of Cosmos. He shook my hand and had a tear in his eye. I wished he was here to learn about the new information regarding the neutron, and our 10th planet. I was able to attend the screening of "Contact" with his widow.
