I have a lot of genuine photos that my Dad took while serving in the Malaya Emergency. Is it possible to upload them? MirandaDavey (talk) 14:39, 20 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

The image of the British soldier holding two decapitated heads needs to be removed from the infobox, per WP:SHOCK. The collage should be restored to the way it was in this revision, before it was readded. This has been discussed multiple times and consensus has always been against including that image. Why someone decided to unilaterally restore it yet again is beyond me. ~2025-38276-10 (talk) 20:25, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pinging Cambial Yellowing, who added the image. --pro-anti-air ––>(talk)<–– 20:53, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
In reviewing the talk page archives I do not see that any consensus against including the image was ever reached. Day Creature (talk) 01:06, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I disagree with that conclusion, but putting aside that it's still blatantly against the advice of WP:SHOCK. It's just a completely unnecessary addition to the collage when the image is already present in the respective headhunting section. The collage was fine and simple with six images, adding this one makes the infobox needlessly longer too. ~2025-38276-10 (talk) 02:18, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I agree. The collage is far too long anyway. jolielover♥talk 03:19, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Done. Anon is correct about WP:SHOCK. Such images can be used if put in appropriate context (probably later in the article) but shouldn't greet the unsuspecting viewer when there are plenty of others available (and there certainly are if there's a whole collage of them). This book is used as a source 8 times in the article yet it doesn't seem like an especially reliable source. The author is described as a history student here and describes himself elsewhere as an "independent researcher", the publisher Pen and Sword varies a lot on the quality of their books and will put out a lot of stuff with minimal peer review. The only review of the book I can find is from the RUSI Victoria orgranisation (unaffiliated with the actual RUSI).

I know the quality of the article has dropped off in the last few years but I don't see why this book is such a prominent source. Idontwantaaccount (talk) 18:36, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

June 17 or 16?

edit

The article says it started on June 17, while the infobox gives June 16 date SuccessBrandOil (talk) 09:13, 31 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
