Notation(s)

edit

I expected to find a section on notation, but nada. Are there any recognised international conventions or does everyone do their own thing? [TBH, I'm not really that bothered but the infobox at infinity symbol has a reference to the character U+26AD MARRIAGE SYMBOL. That links to the huge article Marriage  where that symbol is not even mentioned. So I thought of correcting to the notation section here  but find that it doesn't exist... ] Just putting out there in case anybody feels like developing a new section here. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 00:23, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

discrimination as a motivation

edit

This motivation for genealogy was not mentioned in the article, so I created a new section and added a short sentence to mention its famous use by the Nazis (Ahnenpass and the Mischling Test). It would be valuable to expand this section, as I suspect there are more examples besides Nazi Germany. 85.169.195.108 (talk) 17:57, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Notation

edit

At the lead of gender symbol, after a deprecated citation was removed, a citation is required for

In genealogy, including kinship in anthropology and pedigrees in animal husbandry, the geometric shapes or are used for male and for female.

Can anyone here oblige? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 09:07, 13 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
