edit"unclear" time setting in "Small Gods ? => Somewhere in that book we are told, that,by acts of the prophet Brutha (and of course of Lu Tse, the monk) a timeline of another 6000 years of ... :let's say "killinginthenameof"(insert name of your favourite...god here, if you tend to be philosophical?) ceases to exist - therefore the story is set 600o years before the century of the fruitbat, in which their clergy attacks no more living beings at all, and even only one of the undead, right ? 46.114.221.103 (talk) 20:20, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- The century (not 6000 years) of killing is at the end, said by Lu-Tze, but as it was supposed to be. I quote, "'Er... you know the books say that Brutha died and there was a century of terrible warfare?'
- 'you know my eyesight isn't what it was, Lu-Tze'
- 'well... it's not entirely like that now.'
- if this is not what you are referring to, I am sorry, please tell me. thank you Cal3000000 (talk) 21:21, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Dark Gods‽
editFor the things from the dungeon dimensions on the lifeforms part, it says Things from the Dungeon Dimensions (AKA Dark Gods) , as well as being under Gods. As far as I can tell from the books, they are never referred to as dark gods, and they are certainly not a subset of gods, with how they work being completely different (the things from the dungeon dimensions do not need belief, just as gods do not crave being. Gods already exist.). Therefore I suggest someone put the things from the dungeon dimensions as it's own subset and remove the dark gods part. (If you want to be very pedantic about this, they are not even sentient.) Cal3000000 (talk) 21:14, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Discworld (world) → Discworld universe – Current title makes no distinction between fact and fiction. Specifying it's a fictional universe would make it more clear. Would also be fine with Universe of Discworld, not sure which is more common as they don't really seem standardized. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:45, 22 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! - Another option might be Discworld (setting) or similar. TompaDompa (talk) 06:29, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support either universe or setting. This is possibly notable, but not as a "world" (turtle...?) but as a broader concept. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:59, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- I support any of these. Discworld universe appears to be the most succinct and consistent with other fantasy worlds. Jontesta (talk) 16:06, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Consistent with which fantasy worlds?Halbared (talk) 22:04, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, Discworld is a world, I checked the first three analogous examples I could think of in this area: Land of Oz and Middle-Earth have no signifier, Narnia is on Wiki as Narnia (World). (World) seems like the best uniform descriptor to assign to the page about the world of Discworld.Halbared (talk) 16:27, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'll add that 'universe' is current terminology for comic films. Fantasy worlds, have always been referred to as 'worlds', this is part of the genre of fantasy. Referring to the actual physical world, and the setting where the stories take place. 'Universe' is unneeded here as the Discworld page itself covers that aspect, and this page is about the actual physical Disc, the world (planet). Middle-Earth isn't referred to as the Universe of Middle-Earth, Oz isn't referred to as the Universe of Oz, this is retroactively forcing a current/trendy term from another unconnected medium. Fantasy world.Halbared (talk) 21:55, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support – the article's scope is wider than the Discworld proper. This also lets us avoid the repetitive disambiguator, which technically serves to disambiguate from the series, but isn't ideal. I think Universe of Discworld is slightly clearer than Discworld universe, but either seems fine to me. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:06, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- How is is article wider than the Discworld proper? Why also do you feel the classical literary term 'world' (as in Narnia (world)) is incorrect?Halbared (talk) 22:02, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think a distinction needs to be made here, between the Discworld as a world, the disc, elephants and turtle; and the Discworld universe, the greater cosmos that the Discworld exists in. Mediatech492 (talk) 22:13, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- There is nothing else though, the Disc/animals make the Discworld. There is no other cosmology as in say, Arda (Middle-Earth), with whole other books/stories about creation. The Discworld is the whole sum of the whole thing. Anything else would fall into the Discworld proper page. Halbared (talk) 22:17, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) The article itself states that the Discworld lies on top of elephants which stand on a turtle. This is a sense of the term "Discworld" which refers specifically to the disc, not the things around it. But I'm realizing now that world has several distinct but overlapping meanings, so your use of the word is correct as well. However, my second point stands: "Foo world (world)" is not an ideal disambiguator. (I'm reminded of Strawman (literal).) I see why it's being used here, and I agree that it works – it's not incorrect – but it's just poor style to be unnecessarily repetitive, and an alternative title without that repetition is preferable. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:17, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- The Discworld is the Disc plus the animals; different aspects but all in one. If you've not read the books, I can see how it might appear disconnected. But the 'Discworld' refers to all of it. Saturn is a planet with rings for example. 'World' is the historical term for fantasy worlds. Ahh, I now understand your point about repetition, with the foo world (world) thing. Though I don't know if you are saying I am strawmaning or yourself? So we have repetition on one side; history and style on the other.Halbared (talk) 22:28, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- The page was in a state, it was created clearly a while back. I took a brief glimpse at ME and Narnia to try and make it more modern wiki. It requires some work.Halbared (talk) 22:30, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oh no, I'm not saying anyone is strawmanning here. I'm referring to the redirect discussed at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 September 18 § Strawman (literal). Sorry if that was unclear. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:34, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

- Comment there is Discworld, a "flat planet" in the Discworld system (the stack) in the Discworld fictional universe, that is the setting of the Discworld franchise/book series. -- 65.92.246.77 (talk)
- Oppose per Halbared. This article is about the actual world of Discworld, as such the disambiguator is spot on. I also don't think there's any need to specify that it's a fictional world, the disambiguator is only there to make the title as precise as it needs to be compared to other topics with the same name. In this case that's just the Discworld franchise as a whole and there is no real-life world called Discworld, meaning there's no other world for this to be confused with. It is assumed that people searching the article already have some level of knowledge and would not jump to the conclusion that Discworld actually existed. — Amakuru (talk) 11:51, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
