The Samsung Galaxy A16 and Samsung Galaxy A16 5G are Android mid-range smartphones developed by Samsung in 2024.[2][3][4] Being announced on October 7, 2024, it was released in Europe on October 25.[5] It was only made available in the United States after three months, in January 2025.[6] It is the first A1x series device to receive six generation updates in a span of six years, eventually ceasing to receive updates in October 2030.[7] The phone is part of the Galaxy A series.

editThe Galaxy A16 has a similar camera setup with its predecessor, Galaxy A15: 50MP wide, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 13MP front camera.[8][9][10]
The system-on-chip on the 4G variant uses the MediaTek Helio G99 system-on-chip as with the previous model, while the 5G variants sport either a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 or Samsung's own Exynos 1330 system-on-chip depending on the region.[8][9]
Like its predecessor, both devices have a 5000 mAh battery and support 25 W fast charging,[8][9] have a 6.7" Super AMOLED display with 90 Hz refresh rate, [8][9] and available in multiple storage (128 GB/256 GB which has UFS 2.2 storage type) and RAM options (4 GB/6 GB/8 GB RAM depending on the region), plus microSDXC SD card slot.[8][9]
Software
editThe Galaxy A16 and the A16 5G initially came with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. It can receive upgrades up to six android operating systems, lasting until October 2030.[11][12]

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 1, 2025, the new A16 alongside a selection of other mid-range Samsung Galaxy devices above the A0x/F0x/M0x line, was announced to receive six years of OS and security updates.[13]

editAccording to Counterpoint Research, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G was the world's best selling Android smartphone in Q1 2025.[14] Counterpoint says it saw a 17% increase in sales over the Galaxy A15 5G from the year before.
