Resend is an American software company that provides an email API for developers, used to send transactional and marketing email programmatically.[2][3] The company is also the maintainer of React Email, an open-source library for building email templates with React components.[4]
History
editResend was founded in 2023 by Zeno Rocha and Bu Kinoshita.[4][3] Before founding the company, Rocha was VP of Developer Experience at WorkOS and Chief Product Officer at Liferay Cloud; Kinoshita was the first engineering hire at WorkOS.[4] The company participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch.[4]
In July 2023, Resend announced a $3 million seed round. Y Combinator and SV Angel participated, alongside angel investors including Elad Gil, Lachy Groom, Dylan Field (Figma), Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Paul Copplestone (Supabase), and Calvin French-Owen (Segment).[3]
In December 2024, the company raised an $18 million Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from existing investors Y Combinator and Basecase.[5]
In June 2026, Resend reported that more than 3 million users had signed up for the service.[6]
Acquisitions
editIn April 2025, Resend acquired Mergent, a serverless background-job service that was part of Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch.[7]
In August 2025, Resend acquired Briefer, a data-analytics startup from Y Combinator's Summer 2023 batch.[8]
Technology
editResend offers a REST API and SMTP service for sending email, with SDKs for languages including Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP, Go, Rust, Java, and .NET.[2] Features include webhooks for delivery events, multi-region sending, and managed dedicated IP addresses.[2] In November 2025, the company added inbound email handling to the platform.[9] Resend states it is SOC 2 and GDPR compliant.[2]
The company maintains React Email, an open-source project for composing emails with React components.[4] Version 6.0 was released in April 2026.[10]
