Cornerstone Ranch is a horseback riding ranch and equestrian facility in Princeton and Rutland, Massachusetts. Founded in 2004 by Susan Connell, the ranch offers trail rides, riding lessons, wagon rides, sleigh rides, and youth programs.[1][2]

History

edit

In 2003 Susan Connell purchased an 18 acres (7.3 ha) parcel of land in Princeton, MA. In June of 2004 she founded Cornerstone Ranch and developed it into a horseback riding facility.[3]

In 2018, Connell purchased an additional 31 acres (13 ha) in nearby Rutland to expand the trail system and preserve open land.[4]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ranch expanded to add new facilities, fencing, parking areas, and bought several horses while continuing indoor/outdoor riding activities.[5]

Activities

edit

Cornerstone Ranch provides guided trail rides, riding lessons, wagon rides, and winter sleigh rides.[6]

The primary training method at Cornerstone Ranch is Western style riding and horsemanship. They also host a youth summer camp program for ages eight through fourteen, birthday parties, and seasonal events.[2]

Horses and equipment

edit

The ranch is home to a total of thirty-five horses. Two of the thirty-five horses are mares. The horses are primarily used for trail rides and riding lessons. Horse breeds at Cornerstone Ranch include Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, and draft horses.[6]

Cornerstone Ranch uses a technique of riding developed by Monte Foreman and the Balanced Ride Saddle invented by Merlyn “Slim” Fallis.[7]

Trail system

edit

Wranglers at Cornerstone Ranch lead rides through wooded trails in Princeton and over a section of neighboring private land used with permission.[1] The routes include forest paths and open fields, with trail riding being the ranch’s most publicized and popular activity during all seasons.
