Character Creator (CC) is a 3D computer graphics software application for generating and customizing 3D humanoid character models. Developed by Reallusion, it was released in 2015 as a creation tool for video game development, animation, motion graphics, previsualization, and visual effects work. The 3D characters generated by CC include full-body skeletal rigs and facial morphs, and can be exported in FBX or OBJ format, or transferred directly to Reallusion's animation software, iClone.[1]

Industry Use

edit

FCN Producciones, a production studio based in Costa Rica, used CC as part of its virtual production workflow for the biblical storytelling series Walking by the Word. The studio integrated these tools with Unreal Engine and Aximmetry to create, animate, and deploy 3D characters for real-time production. [2]

History

edit

In April 2026, Reallusion released Headshot 3 plugin for Character Creator 5. The plugin is used to convert photos into editable 3D digital human characters and has tools for facial reconstruction, mesh shape adjustment, texture generation, and full-body generation. [3]

In January 2026, Reallusion revised the licensing models for CC with new subscription tiers alongside existing perpetual licenses. The changes included the addition of annual and monthly subscription plans, as well as product bundles like the Reallusion 3D Suite 365. [4]

Version 5 of CC was released on 28 August 2025 with a new HD subdivision workflow designed to increase mesh detail and support improved real-time visuals. The update expanded on high-definition morphs for more defined body and facial customization, as well as detailed expressions and corrective deformation for animation. It also added ActorMIXER PRO, a tool for non-destructive character model blending and rapid prototyping, and expanded compatibility with 3rd-party software like Unreal Engine, Blender, Maya, and ZBrush. [5]

Character Creator was first released by Reallusion in 2015 as a companion application for iClone. Early versions focused on morph-based character customization and asset transfer that is compatible with iClone.[6]
