Buddhachannel is a French digital media platform and web television channel dedicated to Buddhism, spirituality, and well-being. Founded in 2002 by Alain Delaporte-Digard and Josiane Delaporte-Digard, it is one of the pioneering digital portals for the French-speaking Buddhist community.

History and Founders

edit

Buddhachannel was created to disseminate knowledge about well-being, mindfulness, and Buddhist philosophy.[1] The platform's co-founder and director, Alain Delaporte-Digard, is a practitioner and teacher of shiatsu, yoga, qi-gong, and tai-ji.[1] After working as a thalassotherapy director in Deauville, France, he and his wife Josiane developed a therapeutic discipline known as "bioRégulation" prior to launching the Buddhachannel television project.[1]

During the 2000s, Buddhachannel expanded its reach as a specialized web-TV. In 2007, the operating company applied to the French broadcasting authority (CSA) to obtain a local frequency on the French Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network in the Île-de-France region.[2]

Media Presence

edit

In the French media landscape, Buddhachannel has been noted as a significant portal for Buddhist resources. In 2017, the French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) cited Buddhachannel in its review of the fragmented Buddhist media ecosystem in France, highlighting its role as a digital aggregator.[3]

The platform's content and initiatives have also received international mentions in English-language publications, such as the Cambodian national newspaper The Phnom Penh Post.[4] The site is additionally cited as a reference in various international academic reviews and specialized platforms like Buddhistdoor Global.
