The primary will take place on August 11, 2026. 54 Assembly seats are currently held by Republicans and 45 seats are held by Democrats.

The Democratic Party had also gained 4 seats in the simultaneous state senate election.[1]

Incumbent Democrat Sylvia Ortiz-Velez is ran for re-election, but lost renomination to community activist Ismael Luna in the Democratic primary. The winner of the primary will face Republican Angel Sanchez in the general election. The district, with a large Hispanic population, leans heavily Democratic.[98]
Ortiz-Velez had broken with Assembly Democrats and sided with Republicans on a number of occasions. The Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee backed Luna's campaign, allocating over $110,000 worth of campaign resources to defeat Ortiz-Velez.[98] Luna was endorsed by JoCasta Zamarripa, who represented the district prior to Ortiz-Velez.[99] Luna defeated Ortiz-Velez by a wide margin, receiving about 74% of the vote.[98]
