edit- For the modern country, Moldavia was replaced as the standardized Norwegian name by Moldova in 1995 and is now dated.
- Moldavia was the traditional Norwegian name of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.
- For the historical region and principality, both Moldavia and Moldova occur. Språkrådet lists Moldova as the normalized historical name, while Moldavia remains well established in historical writing.
