Nowadays, the popular standards of beauty are almost unreachable; size zero, taut muscles, and flawless skin. The images we see on TV are illusory; celebrities and models look ‘perfect’ because their careers depend on it. Long hours in the gym, paying health catering companies to prepare their low calorie meals, and the best make up artists and stylists… it is all work. To us, ordinary folks, work, studies, and other social obligations take up our time; so we miss out on the long hours in the gym and at times we are inconvenienced by the preparation of a low calorie healthy meal and so we succumb to a higher-calorie quick bite.

In the alternative scene, I noticed that women and men are more comfortable in their skin. A variety of body shapes is noticeable and the confidence exuded is palpable; however, we all have our insecurities; arms can be thinner, bellies can be smaller, breasts bigger, skin smoother, legs longer, thighs slimmer, and bums tighter.

We are all beautiful, we are all unique… This community is directed towards people of the alternative scene to discuss body-image issues and dysmorphia. Here, we can speak about our insecurities but all the while embracing our bodies and realizing that the whole of our being counts. We like to look good but we also like to be HEALTHY, mentally and physically.
