snowy skies

A big thank you!

A quick post to thank all the kind people who sent me snowflakes and Christmas greetings. It's very much appreciated. My mum's health has deteriorated over the last few months, and she's spent quite a bit of time in hospital. She's home again and keeping quite well at the moment, but with helping to look after her and my own family, I don't get to spend much time online any more.

I hope things will improve in the New Year, and I do have some fics lying around on my hard drive that I would love to get around to finishing and posting. For now I just want to let you all know that I really appreciate the good thoughts and prayers you've all sent me.

Hugs to you all,
Eloise

To misquote Twain would be a sin

But rumours of my demise... Yeah. I've been MIA for a few months, and I discovered a strange and wonderful truth - you can live without the internet. Not that I intended to be offline for four months, you understand, but RL was rather demanding. Family stuff, Mum's illness, the annual round of cancer testing and general work-related madness conspired to keep me from the computer.

I've missed you all very much, and I'd love to be able to say that I'm back 100 percent, but the way things are at the moment, I'll have to settle for about 50%. I'm gradually catching up on all the news, desperately playing catch-up on S4 of SPN (I've only seen up to Afterschool Special), and searching vainly for squee about Being Human - lonelybrit I'm looking in your direction.

I'm so sorry I haven't replied to emails, but I will try to do better. *resolve face*
Uther & Arthur angst

Melin ficlet - Light of Gold - PG13 - Uther POV

Still alive. I'm spending most of the week offline, due to various RL commitments, but in the rare moments of the weekend I get five minutes to myself, I've been trying to write Merlin fic. I'm working on a longer Arthur/Merlin snarky h/c piece, but after watching ep 1.09, I had to write a little Uther POV piece.

The title is taken from Lux Aurumque by Eric Whiteacre. The text and translation of the chorale are at the end of the ficlet.

TITLE: Light of Gold
RATING: PG13 gen
CHARACTERS: Uther
SPOILERS: up to 1.09 - Excalibur
NOTES: 600 words. Set pre series. Arthur's birth.

Happy Birthday Yasminke!

I don't often remember to do this, but I have to wish yasminke a happy birthday. Beta above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to the Winchesters. I think the day is long over where you are, but you can bask in the knowledge that the celebrations concerning the anniversary of your birth continue on into the west.

So, there's this show...

So, there's this show...

I've mentioned it briefly in my sadly infrequent recent postings. I don't think those mentions really convey how utterly I have fallen for Merlin.

There are several reasons why this show has reduced me to inarticulate squee. I shall endeavour to articulate them:

Bullwinchester-Lytton worst first lines contest.

I'm emerging from radio silence once again. RL is still very stressful, and I'm not able to get online during the week at all. I do manage to catch up at the weekend, watch SPN and read what fic I can.

This weekend I logged on to find that win_non_con is running this weekend, and that the wonderful Bullwinchester-Lytton Worst First Lines contest is back for a second year. Of course I had to have a go...

The first one I wrote is slightly spoilery for SPN 4.05, so I've put it in a separate post.

Here are my other offerings thus far:

And in homage to the original Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, here's my own version of "It was a dark and stormy night..."

Go on over and enjoy the awfulness that is the worst first lines of SPN fic we can come up with.

Supernatural Squee.

Emerging from radio silence to express Supernatural squee. It's been a while since I've had anything to squee about, I've been so stressed with RL stuff, but I do manage to get online about once a week, and tonight I saw SPN 4.03.
