a Petition about LJ

It's so long since I've written here I bet everyone's forgotten me, lol. I've had so much going on and no inspiration of feeling to write about it. I logged in just now and read some posts and I want to do my bit in sharing this petition tho, because I have seen people get suspended for harmless things while LJ does nothing about trolls who do real damage so I support its call to have the abuse team reformed.

!!!

This is just horrible!

ARTIFICIAL wombs, to bring a foetus of a human being to full term outside a woman’s body, could become a reality within 20 years, scientists have predicted.

Okay, it does also say

This could present great advantages in the case of very premature babies, which could be nurtured to full pregnancy term in artificial wombs, thereby reducing the risk of long-term developmental problems.

Such technology might also appeal to those who cannot have children naturally, such as women with a damaged uterus or no uterus at all, or to gay couples. The need for surrogate mothers could disappear.

But the very idea makes me shudder!

Child Development

I have always loved kids and known I wanted children but I never thought before about studying child psychology and development, but when I was talking with James last night he suggested it and it's so obvious I don't know why I didn't think of it before!

Sandi (Alex's sister) is doing attachment parenting, where you carry your baby around in a sling instead of putting it in a cot, so it's close by you all the time. She leant me a book because I offered to babysit but I have never taken care of a tiny baby, and it is so interesting what I'm learning from it. There have been many experiments that prove the baby starts to learn while it is in the womb, and how things affect it before and during birth. We think of stuff like smoking and drinking alcohol, but there are a million other things. I already knew it was important to breast feed, and now I pretty much think it's essential!

Sandi says she's going to make all the baby food in the blender fresh too, I admire that. She was also talking about cloth diapers, this is really funny because I had no clue you could get all these special ones, but there are some beautiful ones out there! They are a lot more like clothing. Of course as well as reading the book I went on to LJ and started looking at communities, and its amazing how much there is to learn here.

Katrina

I am keeping everyone in Katrina's path in my prayers. Some of Sara's family are in New Orleans but they took good advice and left yesterday. I am glued to the news right now.

Kayla Ruth

I went over with Alex today to meet Kayla Ruth (his new niece), and oh my, she's so tiny and so perfect! Suddenly I have super big baby urges, I found myself offering to babysit right away, lol!

She made me think about how human life is such a precious thing, and how much we underestimate it's miracles. Babies are born and surviving earlier and earlier, and they move their legs and fingers at just three months. They can even get hiccups at 16 weeks!

I will post a picture of Kayla later.

(no subject)

Alex's sister had her baby today, a little girl they're calling Kayla Ruth. He called me up all excited about it. It's so cute, he is going to make an awesome dad some day.

I talked to James for 2 hours last night, now I'm wishing I could go visit Florida soon!
