Choosing Anakin
Disclaimer: I have an immense respect for George Lucas and his colleagues. I mean no harm while writing this fanfiction. I respect a lot their private lives and I really hope they won't be offended by my little work here.
---------------------------------------- --------------------
There were days like those when everything seemed to go wrong with life, work and all that stuff. When someone felt in that way, people said you should go out, seeing friends and drinking one glass or two.
But that wasn't the case for George Lucas, he had to cast several actors and no one seemed to fit for the role of Anakin Skywalker. He asked a blond-haired blue-eyed boy. He had to be good-looking and shown a dark side inside of him.
Besides, he wanted someone who seemed maverick, defiant and certainly serious. He ought to be look adventurous and he was supposed to be a good friend.
He already looked for Brad Pitt yet he was far too much old for the role, he saw Leoardo DiCaprio yet the chemistry didn't work with Natalie Portman.
It seemed for George Lucas, he had to choose someone else among the famous figures of Hollywood. So he watched again several pictures on his screen before turning off the light.
The worst of this situation it was the fact Attack of the Clones filming starting in five months and no one fitted at all! Sometimes he felt jealous of Steven Spielberg, his long-time friend, for his damn luck with actors.
Oh yes, Steven will joke about that later, he felt it. But it was worth, right?
So George Lucas went to bed while dreaming of blond actors. Soon, it would become a nightmare...
---------------------------------------- ------------------
The morning later, he came to the Fox's studio, the producers wanted to know how the casting advanced and George Lucas didn't feel right during that moment at all.
He knew perfectly Hollywood's rules were strict and George didn't like the fact he was late at all. It reminded him so much when he filmed the first trilogy.
He sighed deeply, knowing they wouldn't be glad at all, he had to be faster, quicker... He entered the room alongside his friend Rick MacCallum, having a bad feeling in his gut. Damn, he became like those Jedi in his own saga!
So he explained carefully how the casting advanced and he wanted more time to find the right young man. The producer in front of him didn't seem to like it at all yet he knew George Lucas since a long time.
The producer thought about the original trilogy and knew how difficult it was for George Lucas to choose the right thing. He was such a perfectionnist!
So he let two more weeks otherwise Fox qon't give him money to start the film and they would choose the actor for him. George felt offended yet he knew it might happen in some cases.
---------------------------------------- ----------------------------
he went out the building and watched the sky remembering the first trilogy's casting. It was so easier during that time! Almost no one wanted to be part of a franchise which might not work.
Yet, his phone rang and he responded to a call.
"Good morning George", Spielberg's voice sounded like bless for Lucas. "How the casting work? I heared you get difficluties."
Geroge Lucas sighed deeply and he really hoped his friend wouldn't bring the sublect on teh table.
"Well... I make sure things get quicker, believe me."
Steven sighed for his friend and he was sure one thing made good to people: a drink or two between friends. yet, as professionals of cinema, they had other activities.
"Why not watching this movie... Life as a House? One of my colleagues told me a lot of good about this movie. Do you want to come?".
George honestly wanted to go to theater with his friend yet he had other projects, other duties.
"Sorry Steven, I have someone to find."
"You should really go out, it will help you. Besides, they are fine actors in that movie."
While entering in his own car, George Lucas considered his friend's advice and let out a deep breathe. Stress didn't bring him any good. Spielberg was right, a good movie would help him.
"Okay. When do you plan to watch it?"
"Today, I will send you a car."
"Okay, see you soon."
He could almost see Spielberg's smile, the knew each other since such a long time, the kind of predicted each other's reactions. Rick MacCallum, at Lucas's side felt very curious all of a sudden. When Spielberg called, things got interesting.
"What happens?"
"Steven invites me for a movie."
Rick opened big widened eyes, George wanted to have fun when they had to choose someone?
"Don't worry, it will be fine."
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------
In the meanwhile, Hayden Christensen opened several screenplays, he remembered his experience alongside Kristin Scott Thomas with Life as a House and thanked her for her several advices. She was so clever and such a kind woman.
He fel it was a privilege to play with her, to meet her, to observe her. She was a model for him. She acted so naturally, people believed easily she was the character herself.
Yet he got a message from his family and his mother told him they invited everyone for a meal the next day. He smiled, after all, he had time for reading the screenplays.
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------
Spielberg took George at home and they went to the closest theater, talking about their projects, their works and future possible stars. Spielberg had the feeling some of them would be extremely good in the future.
George, in the other side was lost his his thoughts, he hoped Marcia was still here to give him advices about actors, she was so good in finding actors. She hepled him a lot during the first trilogy.
"Still thinking of her?"
"She was my ray of light."
Steven smiled: he understood to well for George's liking.
They entered in the theater in this mood, rather optimistic for Spielberg and regretful for Lucas. MacCallum wondered sometimes if George would love someone else after all those years.
The light was off and the movie started. It was rather good and the actors were indeed fine. The story was great and touching. George liked a lot. Yet, someone caught his attention during this watching.
Sam was somehow like Anakin, a bit lost and hopeful. He fitted for the role of Anakin. He hed those blue eyes and the right attitude. Perhaps this movie wasn't a loss of time.
MacCallum watched carefully his friend's attitude, someone caught his attention obviously. This young man could be George's last hope.
Later, George and Spielberg talked about the movie and George was interesd in that Hayden Christensen. He needed to meet the young man.
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------
The next morning, Hayden got ready for his meal with his family. He took a white shirt and a black pants. He took a look in the mirror one more time before driving to his parents' house in Vancouver.
"Hello, dear. How are you?"
His mother was so sweet. His onw father went to the main entrance to greet him proudly. He watched several times Life as a House and found his son quite good.
"That's my son!"
Hayden laughed a lot and met the rest of his family. He felt at home only here. So ha ate what his mother prepared and talked about the last news in Hollywood.

"Sorry Mom, my agent is really serious."
He responded and his agent said:
"Hayden, George Lucas wants to meet you for the role of Anakin Skywalker - Darth Vader."
The Cristensens watched hayden mouth openened as if they couldn't believe what they heared. It took several seconds to recover their attitude.
"That's... wonderful!. Thank you very much. When?" Hayden asked.
"Tomorrow in Los Angeles."
Hayden's father were fairly surprised and he congratulated his son. It would be a great opportunity for him.
---------------------------------------- ------------------------------------
Hayden went out the plane and he met his agent who gave him several pages of a screenplay. He learned in the car by heart some lines like the fireplace scene. He felt he would be casted thanks to those ones.
A producer met Hayden in the main antrance of Lucasfilm and Hayden was guided in a room with several seats. Someone showed him a comfortable couch and he sat here, waiting.
George Lucas entered in the room and greeted the young man. Hayden felt his heart racing, he watched as a child Star Wars and meeting Lucas was a dream coming true.
"We will start with the argument between Anakin and Obi-wan about Padmé's safety."
And it started, several scenes were chosen and Hayden felt as if Anakin took birth inside him. Something happened inside of him and he was sure the character wanted to go out.
"Thank you Hayden" George told.
Soon, a beautiful young woman entered in the room as well: Natalie Portman. Hayden felt warm inside of him, he knew thanks to interviews she was Luke and Leia's future mother. Yet the man inside him felt warm.
"We will choose the fireplace scene now..."
Hayden chose to be close to natalie Protman and he felt as if he was meant to kiss her.
"We can't Ani..."
"Anakin..."
The words went naturally in his mouth and the team was speechless. The chemistry worked indeed! Besides, they were really good-looking together. At the end, Hadyden felt Anakin went away and Natalie felt awkward around this young man. She needed some time alone.
"Good."
George Lucas put a piece of paper in front of him and Hayden took the pen he got. He read the paper and was glad he got the role.
---------------------------------------- --------------------------------------
Outside, he met with surprise another man. He was short and had blue eyes.
"Hayden Cristensen."
The man took his hand.
"Ewan Macgregor."
"Obi-wan?"
Ewan laughed:

Hayden smiled, he felt as if he were part of the family".
"Nice to meet you."
The two men in font of two cup of coffee and talked about their roles and the relationship between Anakin and Obi-wan. Portman joined them later and sat at Hayden's side. Ewan smiled: they looked good together.
"I let you. See you in five months."

Hayden responded to the kiss and he decided he should date her. They broke the kiss and Hayden entered home. Meanwhile, he got the timetable about the training in fencing. It would be a very special filming for sure.

"Are you sure you don't have hidden children here and there?"
Mark opened his mouth.

Mark closed his eyes, George had a very special sense of humor.
