Hi Everyone -- Please Read!

Hey everybody!

I know it's been an awful long time since I updated on here. While I don't so much care for LiveJournal anymore, I most certainly still love all of my LJ friends, and still keep in touch with most of you on Facebook or Twitter or both.

Anyways, the point of this post is, essentially, to ask you for money.

But not for me.

I'm turning 21 in July, and have decided that, since your 21st birthday is such a "big deal", I want it to actually feel that way. I don't drink or gamble (not just because I'm too young, but because it's not my thing), and so the whole "get trashed and go to a casino" thing isn't really my idea of celebrating the big 2-1.

What I've decided to do instead is "donate" (in a way) my birthday to Charity: Water. For those who know about this incredible charity, you can do all sorts of things to raise money, including giving up your birthday. Instead of receiving gifts (which I don't like to do anyway), accept donations that go 100% towards water projects in countries such as those in Africa where fresh, clean water is a rarity. Where women and children have to miss school and work to hike for miles just to find water -- water that's not even clean.

The clean water is very deep underground, and the money donated goes towards building wells that provide water for anywhere between 250 and 400 people!

$5,000 is the cost to complete a water project. That will be my goal for my 3-month campaign which I will launch on April 27th (to go 2 days beyond my birthday rather than ending on it).

What I'm asking of you is to please please advertise this and encourage donations, and donate money yourself if you'd like, and/or if your means permit it.

$20 dollars gives one person fresh water. If we all gave just $20, we'd reach that $5,000 in no time! But hey, I realize that the economy isn't in a very good place right now, and that not everyone can afford to just fork over $20. Please donate what you are able, if you are able. Even if it's $1. It's $1 more than we had before!

This charity is 100% legitimate, and 100% of the donations go directly to the water project. Staff of Charity: Water and their website are funded in other ways (e.g. percentages of merchandise sold on the website, etc). I don't ever see a penny of this money, nor will anyone I know. I like Charity: Water, because it allows anyone and everyone to start their own campaign, but donations go directly to the cause. Not to me, not to some Charity: Water staff member, but towards building and maintaining a water project in a country that needs it (we don't get to choose, it just gets sent to whatever country/village currently needs it).

I hope I can count on your help. If you can't donate, please at least Tweet, put it on Facebook, and maybe even advertise it in your own LJ's. I'm not going to start actually advertising it until it launches, right now I'm just trying to enlist and inform as many people as possible so as to get maximum exposure. I really want to reach that $5,000 goal. Exceed it, if possible. I'm just scared that people will have no problem spreading the word, but when it comes to donations, just assume they don't need to because, "eh, someone else will donate"... Well, if everyone thinks that way, nothing would get going, you know? Haha. Anyways, I'm hoping against hope that this will be a success, and I'd love it if all my lovely LJ friends could help me.

More info as the launch draws nearer.

If 21 is as big of a deal as people claim it is, I want it to feel like it. Let's all make a difference.

Countdown to Campaign Launch: 14 Days
